nope, we’re still waiting on getting all the player clients to support hevc transcoding perfectly first - something we don’t really have an ETA on…
I wish it was that easy to go live.
I do know, one by one, the players are coming into HEVC compliance.
I have tested HEVC output → LG tv app and it was perfect.
The TV flashed “HDR 10” as it switched mode and started playback ![]()
Can we at least get an updated preview build once the regression is fixed?
updated preview build seems unlikely as preview is completed.
The preview build I tested with works correctly.
The only regression was in production PMS (Beta & Public released packages)
Does anyone recall the version before this functionality was broken?
Try build 9200. That one looks pretty good to me
(but my HW might not count either)
To be clear what is broken is external bitmapped subtitles and bitmapped subtitles which change size mid stream (linux/intel igpus only). These have been broken since before this preview started
I am really excited about this! However after updating to plexmediaserver_1.41.2.9239-0b158cae0_amd64.deb on a system with 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz i dont see the option to enable hevc video encoding in my transcode tab.
Am i missing something?
I’ve found several issues with the current stable build in the transcoding department.
Bottom line I had to roll back to an August build before all this madness started to make my system work.
I wasn’t getting any response on my posts so I gave up. The transcoder is a complete mess now.
@kd6icz A vast majority of users have reported the changes to the transcoder have significantly increased their quality of life. As you have been told on your other threads we have filed tickets for your issue and am hoping that the massive transcoder update I am in the middle of will resolve your issues and will dig into them more if it does not.
@crichar did you hit save after enabling hw acceleration/encoding?
It was already enabled so i did not make any changes.
I disabled it saved it and renabled it and still dont see it. This is my full trancoder tab
and version
Ah, I missed the version. HEVC encoding has not been released publicly yet, so you have to use the versions linked at the very top of this thread.
so sorry I actually downloaded it but never installed it. I see it now thanks
@chris_decker08 I was not aware any tickets had been submitted. I didn’t see anything that told me that. Anyway, I’ll hold off until the next stable release is out.
Just curious why the source codec on the dashboard was removed on the newer releases? I really miss that information.
Known bug.
Hey everyone, I am thrilled to be able to share with you that this will be going live publicly next Wednesday the 22nd! It will require a minimum of PMS 1.41.3 (not sure about the minimum client versions), and more information should be provided on that day! Thank you all for your help testing this and am looking forward to more preview threads in the future!
Let’s gooooo!
Just because I’m sort of curious, but does this change help Plex with their streaming service? I assume not really on the server side, but how about whatever changes needed to be made to the clients? (Although most modern clients already supported HEVC so not sure of that made a difference?)
We all know that Plex has been really spending a lot of resources on their streaming service - it’s what they really make $$$ on, so just wondering if this has just been Plex giving us a (very welcome) bone, or does it help their other plans?
What a legend !!..
With my i7-14700K being able to use this without breaking a sweat, this is gonna be huge benefit.
Haven’t tried any of the previews personally, but have been watching this thread like a hawk to monitor the progress.
Many thanks to Plex, and of course… A huge thanks and hats off to @chris_decker08 ![]()
EDIT: And must also say thanks to all those in this thread who pushed on through the previews in order to help Chris do his thing… Great community spirit!
