HEVC x.265 / BT2020 issues

Hello,
I am currently running Plex off my FreeNAS box in a jail. the CPU is an E5620. I am trying to stream to my Samsung KS8000 tv which says supports HEVC. I am using the Plex app from the Samsung app selection. When I try and play my HEVC movie it keeps freezing then playing some and freezing again. How can I fix it so I can properly stream the 4k/HDR content?

side note the passmark of the CPU is 4875

Any news on this issue?

Can confirm Issue for latest PlexServer (with Pass) and PlexWeb. However, it does work with Directstream on Win8.1 Pro and Plex Media Player. As soon as I switch to Transcoding it stops playing at all. Same Codec and Colorspace.

I have had the same experience on a X3430 CPU (passmark 3376) on a Panasonic TV that also supports HEVC. The transcoder chews up the CPU on that. It does not happen when I play it from my quad CPU Machine. I think the transcoder needs to work quite hard for HEVC encoding or is probably still a bit buggy as I am not sure it is 100% supported by Plex as per comments of a few other people on the forum.

I have the same issue trying to play UHD rips whether its from the xbox one plex app, or the TV’s plex app. I believe it is because these rips are captured/encoded in 10 bit and PLEX will only direct play 8 bit so if it isn’t 8 bit then its transcoding and on a 4k video that’s just a nightmare for the cpu on your server.

i have seen this same behavior when attempting to play media through the plex app for my lg tv - but if i play the file off my lg tv’s built in dlna app, it plays without issue or pause.

same file, same server, same tv - different results.
