The above release flies in the face of ALL paying customers whom are currently having issues with their plex environments. LONG STANDING issues that are vital for proper playback are still here. Do you even care? This is completely unacceptable.
All bugs? Knowing how software and hw fragmentation work, we might be here a while before we see anything new.
Is there something specific that is troubling your installation currently?
Alternatively, if you are that worried about “bugs” you should not be using the beta update channel.
That wasn’t the point of my post. Just look at the forums. I myself have multiple issues. Audio sync issues. Either the audio starts lagging behind during livetv streams on my shield, or in the web client, and sometimes the roku… Now over the last couple weeks, we are experiencing where commercials during a live tv stream starts speeding up, and the voices sound like the chipmunks. Also, and later on, or at a completely different time/day/channel, the opposite happens, and the stream goes SUPER slowww…
Another issue is that sometimes I cannot even tune the channel on my shield. Another long time bug that has a been around for years. numerous people have these issues. The same channel from the hdhomerun app, a roku, webclient works just fine. Signal is 98-100%. no network issues.
Being in the beta channel means nothing. It’s not about that. the same versions are then released with no additional fixes for bugs that come out of the beta releases, unless it’s a complete show stopper. There seems to not be any response from the Plex team on some of these really old issues, and when they do respond, they are not really making it a priority, or providing any transparency on what they are doing about the issues. I can go on, but I think from this, you should get an idea of where I am coming from. There are MAJOR issues with things such as livetv that need to be addressed before new features are released to the community.
Perhaps a support post outlining the issues you are having with LiveTV playback would garner a bit more serious attention to the problem than posts where the subject line is obtuse demands of the development team in the General Discussions area.
There are many posts with plenty of detail.
And, as a paying customer, I don’t think that I am out of line. I have other family members whom have paid for lifetime subs as well as I for this product, and I feel that we should be able have a working product…
For clarity, I’ve updated the release announcement post again. The changes in question in this case happen to actually involve new implementation work on existing user-facing features.
The reason we come up with new versions is not to fix bugs. It’s absolutely not. It’s the stupidest reason to buy a new version I ever heard. When we do a new version we put in lots of new things that people are asking for.
Bill Gates
can we get a new version where people asking for things to work are addressed? lol
Does this include fixing live TV? Serious question, not trying to be insulting.
We are hopeless and try the beta just as a last resort. Because so called stable releases are full of bugs that get never fixed. I can’t remember when was the last time I watched a movie from start to end without encountering an issue.
Looking at your post history I am not seeing any threads where you have posted detailed information or logs about the specific problems you are having.
It is difficult for the Plex developers to fix vague observations such as “I can’t remember when was the last time I watched a movie from start to end without encountering an issue” compared to providing the log export from your server in a support post when these things happen with a brief explanation of the steps taken to reproduce the issue.
I am a Plex user and have been for well over a decade, I am not pretending I have never been frustrated by it, however the times I have provided a detailed explanation of my problem and logs of the issue, more often than not I have been able to get help from the forum and often times from a bonafide Plex employee.
TLDR; Being upset is fine, but just coming and voicing your displeasure in a thread on the General Discussions board is probably not the quickest way to get a bug fixed.
I’m also having problems with liveTV on both my android plex instances - google tv and sony TV, and I think it started 2 updates ago. It is especially frustrating when things that used to work get broken.
I got tired of arguing with fanboys and eventually being temp banned for complaining, so I just keep multiple clients onhand so I can switch when one particular client is having issues. It’s annoying, but as someone who relies on plex daily for entertainment and relief from my IT job, it’s the best solution I’ve found.
Look, it is not about my particular issue is being fixed or not. It is about a general fact that the product quality is rubbish and does not improve, gets even worse. Just look at everyone’s posts, not mine. Even do a web search you will understand how catastrophic is the situation. The main idea in this thread is that why the developers spend their time on introducing useless features rather than fixing bugs and improving product quality.
I’ve tried to in the past, and have provided logs. But did you look at the posts themselves in my history? Just because I personally didn’t contribute data, doesn’t mean that others haven’t… And I really didn’t expect this to happen by posting in here. But dang if it isn’t working? “quick” and plex don’t seem to mix either.
And ok. to your point… What are you wanting when there are audio sync issues… How detailed am I supposed to be. I LITERALLY PROVIDED A VIDEO… To be detailed. livetv streams at random times while watching tv with my shield start sounding like the Chipmonks… How would you explain that in more detail? Ya, I can provide the versions of the client. but I would like to be engaged by a plex employee before start going down that road…
You sound like me, I ended up switching to Emby though:).
Yea… Did this update this morning. Killed my movies library. All other libraries were fine (TV Shows, Comedy, etc.). Once the upgrade was complete it showed my movies library as empty.
Now it is going through a complete rescan of all my movies (about 6000 of them). Can’t wait to see what I have to rename or match again.
Nice…just updated to the latest Server beta…all my libraries are now gone. How can stuff like this slip through to users? Had a database backup but had to set up sharing with users again incl. restrictions etc. what a PITA
… this is why I made the post. It doesn’t make sense to me.
I have two separate Plex Servers that installed the current beta just fine with no issues on Mac Minis running Catalina. Just voicing the all clear here.
My server just auto updated to this build with out any visible issue
In my personal experience the hardware, os config and user have as much to do with issues in a software as the problems in it’s code.
