How bad is plex

Have to ask.

How bad is Plex Now?

At 6:19PM, when you asked, Plex was great…

Plex has some issues. After all it is a pretty huge and complex ecosystem.
Having said that there is nothing better, or even close, for organizing, control and playing back my media.

So:
How bad is Plex? It is about as good as it gets and even with the issues that I and others harp on it is the best there is. But it still could get better.

It’s not bad at all, in fact, it’s great!

I can play all my media from every single screen/speaker in my home - with very few/no issues.

Does plex have problems? of course - I think they should be more focused on what users (actually) want, squashing bugs and their client UI is uninspired and slow to navigate (I use the PKC addon which solves this problem for me).

Does the team focus on things that I find of questionable value? hell yeah!

Are these problems deal breakers? hell no!

Don’t pay for it, you will be disappointed.

The UWP App is essentially broken on Windows 10, Plex Media Player has consistent Audio Sync Issues, so there is basically no good front-end to use from Plex themselves.

Every new version introduces new bugs, with major bugs still existing MANY versions on (some fundamental ones running north of a year now).

The back-end Server-side is great and the best way to manage your media by far.

Lets just say the idea of the Plex ecosystem is awesome, but in practice, it is a constant struggle trying to get anything from the developers (who have been bought out by a big corporate who have their own agenda).

Used to be great, but as soon as something even remotely similar comes along, will see a mass exodus of long time users for sure.

Never had an issue with PMP audio sync. UWP app sucks.

Most of my issues come from running betas but that’s on me not them.

Very happy with especially with the extra features i get because of plex pass. Happy with the fedora support and windows 10 app. Hate the sudden tiny ui changes (reshuffling controls) however that devs force on us (but hey its what it is).

If you have a sample file and details which reproduces, we’d love to know about it. There’s not a pathological known issue I’m aware of.

who have been bought out by a big corporate who have their own agenda

This is complete bullshit. Nobody’s been bought, and it’s almost the same exact core group of people who run things, nearly ten years later.

This is nothing more than a pile on Plex thread. The OP clearly has a ‘bash Plex’ agenda. Hell, look at the title.

And, with the pile on comes fake news.

Keep calling bullshit as it lands in the thread so new users know the truth!

Hahahaha, I love when people post “facts” like Plex has been bought out, when they have absolutely zero knowledge of it. Where do they get this crap?

Love Plex. There are always more features one could way with anything. Plex is not different. That said, the product is AMAZING. I’ve got clients running on Windows 10, Roku, Android TV, Android and iOS, as well as an embedded OpenPHT client. I used to have clients on PS3 and Samsung Smart TV. I’ve also used PMP and have played with Plex on Kodi. I’ve run the server on a QNAP NAS, a Windows 7 machine and a Windows Server machine. I’m thinking about porting over to either Docker or Linux and might even move it to a VPS. I am not a huge fan of PMP and I won’t touch Plex Cloud unless or until it supports encryption, but I love the ecosystem and the server is stellar.

Plex is great and it does exactly what I need, both PMS and PMP.

I have been here since the beginning (changing user accounts once or twice during the years); still very glad to be using Plex and my purchase of a PlexPass Lifetime the very first day they announced it has been a very great deal!

However, it does seem to me that the team is somewhat running out of ideas - nothing/very little seems to be happening, and tuner stuff seems so 2008 to me. Am I wrong (I am not that much into the loop currently), @elan?

Plex has hinted that they are working in the background on two things. The first is acquiring their own content and the second is integrating third party services into Plex. Theoretically, this could lead to being able to have a movie library that spans both local content and UV/DMA licenses, which would be amazing.

I also suspect that they are putting a lot of time into Plex Cloud and there have been hints that they are working on a complete user interface overhaul for PMP. The latter could have implications for overhauling the UI across several platforms, which may be why it is taking so long.

This is all conjecture, but Plex has received some serious outside funding and that does not come without a very detailed business plan. I’m expecting great things.

Hum… Tell us more about that “serious funding” Really. From what I’ve seen there’s no info about a recent hedge fund: Plex - Crunchbase Company Profile & Funding.

If no info can be shared, no problem. As long as the UWP App gets some love, I’m on board!! You’re not alone @“medianode@manicpalm.com” !!!

And I would love to have UV/DMA content through Plex directly to my Cloud or home server!

Go Plex!

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. That was what they said when they brought out PMP, it was going to be a unified UI across the eco-system (at least that is what I and quite a few others understiood them to say).

Would love to see links to these “hints” that you are privy to.

Comments in the blog. Comments dropped here and there in the forums. Nothing secret.

So, nothing. Go it.
Carry on.

Wait, what? where was I for that? Plex is now owned by a big corporation? Details please.
