Recently switched isp’s to Tmobile and found myself behind a nice cgnat. Knowing there aren’t a lot of good easy to use free options i would like to ask plex to offer a full quality indirect streaming subscriptions not limited to 2Mbps.
Please quantify what “Full Quality” means in terms of bit rate and what would be an acceptable surcharge for such a premium service
I would be looking for 5-8Mbps for HD of our Live TV streams without losing too much clarity. I would be willing to pay a couple bucks a month for that. I am limited based on my upstream bandwidth at the moment but if I can increase that I would be interested in more in the future.
A “Premium Relay” service would still be limited by your upload no matter what happened.
What is your current upload ? calculate having about 85% of that .
what do you get ?
25Mbps on average. Occasionally up to 40.
I am going to put some effort into this because
- I think there are those cases (CG-NAT and Static IP for $5-10/nonth )is not an option
- Folks living in a condo/homeowners association where there is a common router they can’t control.
That as basis what I do see,
- Plex will need to buy bandwidth from its provider
- That bandwidth will be just like us purchasing from our ISP (speed & amount)
- A customer subscribes for Rate X, Quota Y package.
- The mechanism functions essentially like our home ISPs do for speed & quota except constrained only for Plex streaming use.
- In Plex’s case, when the quota / billing period is over, normal Relay limitations resume.
Does this make sense?
Sounds great…
Take my money. But not too much.
Thanks for listening, and even more so for considering it.
I’m by no means an official spokesman nor am I involved with the product development group but I do hear what you’re asking and will write it up.
If you’d like, I’ll post it here so you and all can determine if it’s worthy of submitting as a formal product request.
There’s already an existing thread/suggestion asking for an option to get higher relay speed/bandwidth. I suggest you comment/vote in that thread in order to avoid distracting votes.
I’ll therefore close this thread as a duplicate.
