Home Users: Do not allow user switching for home members

I’ve been adding some managed users to my Plex, which is great, but They need my login information to login to the plex site, or apps on TV’s or mobile extra. I really don’t want to do that, then I notice that you can add a home user that also has a Plex account of their own! Even better now they can use their own login and have access to everything (Except Server Admin) with out having to go “What’s the login again” or “Can you activate my TV” But when they do log in they have the option to log in as me if they know my 4 digit pin. or any other user for that matter.

So I was thinking that, as the admin, wouldn’t it be great if I could set a restriction for that type of home user that disallowed user switching. Effectively forcing the client to always use the automatic login feature and disable the switch user button for that user.

Other user switching related restrictions that would be neat

  • Hide admin user from this home user.
  • Hide user/don’t allow other users to login as this user, even with the correct pin
  • Hide other Home Users from this user.
  • Grant All/Some PMS admin rights
  • Allow create Admin Specified Libraries (aka photos). Admin would have to set a containing folder and an subfolder of the library name would be created automatically. Similar how Windows creates folders by user name in c:\users. The PMS admin would just specify the path. And maybe max storage size.

I could probably come up with more

If you don’t want a user to be able to switch, don’t add it into your Plex Home.
It’s as simple as that.
Plex Home, as the name implies, is for your immediate family which lives in the same household.

All other users should be merely added as ‘friends’.

I’m aware of the friends option, which is great for my friends not my family members.

But I’m not talking about it shared on a tv in the house, my family members can log on from their phones, a browser on someone else’s computer, basically everywhere else that is not in my home. Which could potentially leave it logged in allowing someone else not in my family the opportunity to break that simple 4 digit pin. So forgive me for asking the creators to offer some more advanced security options between home users.

So really not that simple.
