How about fixing stuff?

I never was in one of the roundtable events, but I totally understand moving away from it if the entire purpose of the meeting was reduced to a “this is what’s wrong” session.

The ones I attended were a lot of “This is broken” but also a lot of “This is the direction Plex should take” and a lot of “This was a waste of resources.” It was quite clear that Plex did not want to here that their flaunted new features were not working well and/or not usable amd/or not wanted and they REALLY did not want suggestions that did not agree with the path they had already chosen. I got the strong feeling that they were disappointed that there was not more people that thought they were moving in the correct direction.

Plex clearly did not really listen to the feedback they received or they did not believe that the feedback was at all what their users really felt. They clearly feel that feedback from what they call “Power Users” is not of ant real value.

I think they just held the rountables in the hope that that the troublesome users would shut up and since that did not work they are discontinuing them.

We were a part of the same one. All I can clearly remember from it was the Plex employees (KinoCharlino and another one, can’t remember his username) trying to get us to say that we wanted 3rd party content and telling us how haystack was a great source for news (guess what happened next). They didn’t care about our opinion, they wanted to be told they were on the right track. Didn’t happen. Not surprised they won’t do it again.

or implement user requested features over Ivory tower development … Then I’d be truly surprised and happy.

You mean like the collections feature?

No not really actually. Besides that feature requires the post privacy policy fiasco version of PMS.

Well … in that case it was exactly the same than it is here in the forum.

Just adding my 2p…

I think Plex is a good idea but it needs to be far more stable and quicker before I go back to it. The bells and whistles can come later, after the engine is well and truly running properly.

Anyone care to comment on plex.tv/blog/beginning-look-lot-like-collections/ ?

I think the prioritization should be:

  1. Fix released features that are broken
  2. Fix released features that are broken
  3. Fix released features that are broken
  4. Implement features heavily requested by users
  5. Implement features not requested by users

Unfortunately, from what I’ve observed, the prioritization seems to be nearly reversed.

If we’re honest, that was a very highly requested feature that should have been there a long time ago. Hard to complain.

That is about the single most requested feature ever… I personally am happy as a pig in mud with it - once the few beginner’s quirks are ironed out (as pointed out in another thread).

I wouldn’t hold my hopes up. Plex has a great track record of releasing something new that is half promising and then lose interest after the initial release and abandon it for the next “best” thing. Features bring in new subscribers, bug fixes won’t … Or so they seem to think.

I hear you on that. But based on an afternoon spend with the beta, it’s meets my admittedly modest needs in that regard.

I fully understand that it is one of the most requested. Of course before I can use it I have to UNCOLLECT all the single movies Plex so nicely (without ASKING) put in collections for me, even movies that HAVE NO COLLECTIONS (i.e. Plex nicely created a “Collection” for the movie “Bloodsport” with Jean-Claude Van Damme even though there is only one movie in the “Collection”).
But of course, it is not anywhere near consistent, as most things with Plex now. Plex has created 82 collections for me. I made 2 - Bond and Harry Potter, so I have 84 total.
Thanks Plex.
I reported it repeatedly but it never got fixed.

In addition, there are bugs in the system that have been around for YEARS, hundreds of logs have been submitted, yet they still don’t fix them or admit they don’t have the knowledge to fix them.

I am all for enhancements. But with all of the bugs they have, they really need to concentrate on those. Move resources around to get bugs fixed, especially the ones that have been there for YEARS. Stop feeding us the bull that they have enough resources to fix bugs AND bring on new features. It is obvious they either do not or they do not have the ability to fix their own bugs.

But they really do not care as has been pointed out repeatedly in these forums, only to be addressed with the usual BS of “Oh, we really do care about our users. See! New features.” Users reply “What about the bugs.” Plex: “You have to submit logs for us to fix bugs.” Users: “We have submitted hundreds of logs and it is still broken.” Plex: (posts) https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/search?utf8=✓&query=logs&commit=Search and they are never heard from again.

So, yes, it is VERY easy to complain. The problem is they don’t actually listen, despite all the BS they try and sell that they do.

I used to be a big defender and promoter of Plex. Not anymore.

Are you sure about that? Last time I checked the automatic collection feature was hidden under Advanced and not enabled by default when creating a library. Not defending the automatic part in itself, it is horrible because of the source that Plex gets them from, but it is turned off and under the advanced part for a reason. I understand your frustration and I’ve seen it from others that enabled that setting but never saw the error it caused because they never filtered by collections. So they were kind-of hidden from view… Which they aren’t any longer.

With that said. Deleting said faulty collections (now that you know they aren’t any good) is as easy as turning said option off (that you’ve enabled), enable Media deletion (for now, this will be changed), go to Movies - Collections and mark all collections in err and delete them (by clicking the three dots in the top right corner).

As a product manager for my day job this thread makes me cry. At least it’s the same everywhere.

I dare to disagree: it’s pretty bad everywhere, but here it’s beyond.

Yes, I am quite sure of it.
I have deleted the unwanted collection many times in the past and they keep re-appearing.
The library was created 5 1/2 years ago, not a new library.
And I never “enabled” the option. I never wanted the feature, not sure why you think I enabled it the option myself. In fact I disabled twice - because it would turn itself back on. When you ASSumed that I turned it on just made an a-- out of you and … well just you.
I have searched recently but cannot find the option to turn it off and just got fed up with it resetting itself so I just learned to live with it, like all the other crap Plex refuses to fix (or doesn’t have the ability to fix, which they should tell us they don’t).
Thanks for your “comments”.
