How can i force clients on a specific Bandwith / Transcode setting ?
Like use 15 Mbit or use direct stream?

At this moment the client is overruling the server settings what should not happen. (It looks like its always 2Mbit)
Even when going to the direct server url it happends on Android, IOS and Desktop app.

On the LAN this is less then on WAN but i got Thread WAN the same as LAN and even then i can`t control it.

4 diffrent friends have the exact same issue.
We are all on the latest public version, als we tried the latest Beta version.

Is this a bug or something else ?

You can’t currently. If you don’t want your server to transcode video then you can turn off video transcoding and clients will fail until they put their remote stream setting on Original/Maximum or a bit rate higher than video. (it will still fail if file is incompatible with client)

You’re not alone having an issue with the current situation. Read up here:

I want to set the bandwith, a lot of users have this problem, when is this available again?
It was possible in the past to control the clients.

No it wasn’t. A server owner can only control the max limit in remote access settings

@BigWheel are you planning to use the automatic setting per default on clients, is see its in beta?

I’m not really sure what you are referring to. If you mean this Automatically Adjust Quality when streaming | Plex Support, that is not default because it needs to start playback as a transcode because it cannot switch between direct play and transcodes. it can only adjust a transcode.

If I may add here?

Settings - Server - Remote Access - Show Advanced

This dropdown lets you set the limit for each remote player .
I show setting the limit to 20 Mbps 1080p.

Doesn’t help when the default ist set to 2mbps :person_facepalming:

This is a really common complaint. It comes up a lot on Reddit. I assume there’s a specific reason this hasn’t been implemented even with all the noise people make about wanting to make such a feature happen. I think of all the things we want to happen, implementing server-side bandwidth control would get the most admins dancing up and down the streets with joy. I know I would be one of them.

If you want to force a specific bitrate for a specific user/all users while still transcoding it can be done with nginx if you feel hacky. The same can be done to force original without transcoding.
