I have a lot of old songs on my NAS. I created a music library, and it’s now in Plex. But because the metadata doesn’t include an album, artist, or title, it displays “unknown” for each song. How can I get Plex to display the file name?
It also doesn’t display any images, even though I have them in the folder:
.TPDLNA\art_cache\mnt\sda1
If your file name or folder path contains all of these: Song Title, Artist name, and Album title,
AND these informations are organized in a uniform manner
(e.g. /Music/Artist/Album/Song Title.mp3 or maybe /Music/Artist_Album Title_Song Title.mp3)
then you can use software to parse that folder name and use parts of it to fill the embedded meta tags of your songs. mp3tag is what I would use. It can process many files at once in this manner.
Okay, but there’s nothing I can do? I can view my various folders, click on them, and then see a list of music and audio files I’ve placed there, displayed with their file names.
@Daantje266 I think part of this comes down to a miss-understanding. What is your goal here? Plex can deal with several types of media, but the most important thing is to understand that plex library based player. That might require using some filename patterns into your metadata fields. Or to tweak how you store metadata to fit into a format that Plex can use.
I have both an audio book and YouTube based library, neither of those however can be treated like a normal library.
My goal is just to listen to music on my phone or Android Auto. But DS Audio doesn’t really work in Android Auto, and I find the app mediocre.
I don’t want editing all the metadata and changing file names, so I’ll have to look elsewhere. I find it stupid that there’s no option to simply use file names.
