How do I access my local Plex server on my NAS in Ubuntu

I have a raspberry pi5 running Ubuntu 24.04. I also have a local Plex server at home on a Synology NAS with plenty of movies on it. What is the best way to access this server other than a web page? I have installed Kodi and the Add-On but I don’t see how that would access the local Plex.

Any insight would be helpful!

Install this into Kodi: PM4K / PlexMod for Kodi (18, 19, 20, 21, 22+)

Thank you for the quick reply, I have added this “Add-On” but how do I configure it to access my local Plex? It seems to want to connect to the web.

Of course it does. Each Plex client needs to log into a Plex account. From there, it will fetch the authentication and the address of the server(s) to which it was granted access.

Plex uses online authentication to secure the connection between the client and the server. It (the online company) knows the IP address of your server, so any (authorized) client anywhere can connect to your home server without you having to do things like setting up domains or having to remember your home’s external IP address.

I think with most clients, you can connect without authentication to your local server, but some features will not work well. Some clients cannot connect without authentication. I do not know which ones do which, so I cannot tell you if you can connect directly with PlexMod.

If you are okay with a very short online connection for authentication, don’t worry that any information is being passed outside the house. Once you log onto Plex, your client receives the secure token to connect to your server, and then no more traffic passes outside the house during your time using the clients.
