I’m having problems adding OVAs from different seasons of the same anime separately I’ve already looked in the folder configuration options in the support but the only option I found was to name it as “season 00 special” but if I configure the OVAs folder of the first season this way and do the same with the second season one of the two doesn’t appear in the library and I wanted to put the OVAs separately, does anyone have any tips?
if this detail is important, I use a QNAP NAS server
Some shows have their OVAs listed as Specials.
In that case you can list them in a Specials or Season 00 folder inside the show’s folder.
Example:
TV Shows <- the folder linked to your library
Show Name (Year)
Season 01
...
Season 02
...
Specials <- or "Season 00"
Show Name (Year) - s00e01 - OVA 1.ext
Show Name (Year) - s00e02 - OVA 2.ext
...
Alternatively you can manage them as local extras
Example:
TV Shows <- the folder linked to your tv-show library
Show Name (Year)
Season 01
Shorts
OVA 1.ext
OVA 2.ext
Show Name (Year) - s01e01.ext
Season 02
Other
OVA 3.ext
OVA 4.ext
Show Name (Year) - s02e01.ext
...
In this case the OVAs will show as shorts or “other” extras in their respective season respectively. However… keep in mind not all clients are currently capable to display local extras for all tv-show tiers. At the moment, only the Android/iOS mobile clients can display extras for all tiers (incl. Seasons).

Tom’s suggestion is the way to go. Plex uses TheTVDB or TheMovieDB numbering for shows (TheMovieDB by default, but they rarely diverge), and any non-standard episode is dumped into a specials “Season 00”. So check their site to find out which “S00Exx” it is, and put the episode number for that OVA. Plex will detect the episode (and air date), and should cleanly play the episode in the correct order based on air date. So if a mid-season OVA aired after episode 12, when you watch the show, after episode 12 ends, it will automatically play the OVA, then resume back at episode 13.
This can be a bit annoying, because Plex does not appear to me to want us to ever LOOK into the Specials season. So unless you know about this, it can be hard to think to look there to see if you have an OVA you expected to see mid-season or end-of-season.
Alternatively, if it’s an end-of-season episode that you REALLY want to show up with the rest of the season, you can put it in there by making your own “episode” number. For example, in an anime season 01 that ends at 24, you can make a S01E25 - OVA 1.ext name for the OVA. Plex will pick up the episode, but since it cannot match it to TheMovieDB, it will have blank metadata. You can then edit in your own metadata for the episode so it looks like the rest. Make sure to include the air date, so it is played in the right order. Note: This will not work for mid-season OVAs, since you cannot have partial episode numbers. This might be why TVDB and TMDB moved to a specials season format.
