Anime fans - how do you organise your OVA's, specials and films?

Hey y’all! So I’ve always enjoyed anime but lately, I’ve been getting into it a lot more. When I only had 10 series or so it wasn’t too bad; my organisation was crap and messy but since I didn’t have many series it didn’t really bother me & I could always find what I want.

Now though, I’ve got around 25 series and I know that it’s just going to grow and grow. I want to organise my OVAs, movies and specials so that they are all in the same spot. At the moment OVAs and specials are all over the place and I have the anime movies in my movies library. I want to change this and put them all together.

Let’s use One Piece for an example - obviously, seasons are easy, just like any other TV show, but what about movies and any specials that are out there? The only thing I’ve come across regarding these is to make a “Season 0” folder within the One Piece folder and put the movies in there. If this is the best way to go about it, how would I name them? Like the following?

/One Piece/Season 0/S00E01 - One Piece: The Movie.mkv/
/One Piece/Season 0/S00E01 - Clockwork Island Adventure.mkv/
/One Piece/Season 0/S00E01 - Chopper’s Kingdom on the Island of Strange Animals.mkv/
/One Piece/Season 0/S00E01 - Dead End Adventure.mkv/
etc.

I suppose this would work fine… but then what about a series that has movies AND OVAs? My ideal scenario would be to just have a Movies “season” and an OVA "season, like:

/One Piece/Season 1/
/One Piece/Season 2/
/One Piece/Season 3/

/One Piece/Movies/
/One Piece/OVAs/

As far as I know, though, this isn’t possible. With the knowledge I have of Plex at the moment, I would just have to put them all in the “Season 0” folder and try my best to order them in a way that I understand. Would you put the OVAs first and movies second (or the other way around) just going “S00E01 - OVA 1”, “S00E02 - OVA 2”, “S00E03 - OVA 3”, “S00E04 - Movie 1”, “S00E05 - Movie 2”, “S00E06 - Movie 3”, etc.

I hope this all makes sense to you guys. Another idea I had - will Plex read things such as the following?

/One Piece/Season 0/S00E01-1 - OVA 1
/One Piece/Season 0/S00E01-2 - OVA 2
/One Piece/Season 0/S00E01-3 - OVA 3
/One Piece/Season 0/S00E02-1 - Movie 1
/One Piece/Season 0/S00E02-2 - Movie 2
/One Piece/Season 0/S00E02-3 - Movie 3
/One Piece/Season 0/S00E03-1 - Special 1
/One Piece/Season 0/S00E03-2 - Special 2
/One Piece/Season 0/S00E03-3 - Special 3

If Plex would read the above then I could just do OVAs as E01-1, E01-2, E01-3 and then movies as E02-1, E02-2, E02-3 and specials as E03-1, E03-2, E03-3 but I’m not sure that it would, that seems too convenient lol.

Anyway, I hope that all of this has made sense to you guys, I would love some help. I’m sure someone is gonna come along with a much, much better way of doing things (I hope so anyway!).

Cheers, I appreciate the time taken to read this messy essay!

Everything is already in TheTVdb. They have a Specials season where they list and order all the specials and movies and also Plex uses their date of release to insert them between the episodes of a season this way.

Just duplicate the order on TheTVdb and you’ll be fine.

I have over 500 anime series on my plex server, if you want ovas, series and movies on the same library this is what I recommend.

Use the Myanimelist agent and list it with the original OVA name, instead of using a Season 0 folder, create a folder for the OVA itself with it’s original name.
Look at the Konosuba entries for example

Then you can create a Collection, add everything to the collection and get it to be shown as a single item on your library.
