How Do I Create a top level directory for Other Videos

Hi, This post may be in the wrong place (I’m not sure where it should go, so I will start Here) I have had my plex-server for quite a while and am in the process of reorganizing things. Lets just say I’m getting a little OCD. I would like to Create a top level directory in Libraries for Other Videos (kind of like TV shows but for Other Videos) I have a series of instructional videos in each of the ON1 Libraries, But it is becoming a little cluttered in the sidebar. I do understand that if I create these Libraries in a TV Show type Library , Plex will try to get the info and require the S01 E01 format. Any Help Would be appreciated and, Thanks in advance.

This is pretty much how my system is setup:
/3D Movies
/4K Movies
/Educational
/Home Movies
/Movies
/NFL
/Photos
/Screeners
/TV Shows/Ended
/TV Shows/Ongoing

Each of those is it’s own library with the exception of TV Shows. I just prefer the directory split for my TV Shows so I know which series have ended and which are ongoing. I have 2 folder entries for my TV Show library.

Carlo

Carlo,
Thank you.
I think I said it wrong, So let me try this from another tac… I would like it to sort of look like a directory structure. I tried adding all the individual folders under:
/ON1
and what I got was 170 videos all in one mass on the screen, what I’d like to get to… would be some thing like this:
/ON1 (this being the only thing in the initial Library view)
/ON1-ATS (8 videos)
/ON1-Blend Mode ( 5 Videos)
/ON1-Photo Raw ( 7 videos)
/ON1- Light Room ( 9 Courses 143 Videos)
/Course 1 (9 vid)
/Course 2 (21 vid)
/Course 3 (14 Vid)
And so on…

I’m not sure that what I’m asking is even possible, I did try this in TV Shows and it sort of worked, It’s missing some directory’s and moved some files to others. (I would have to rename all the Videos to include season and episode and that is a little more complicated and it would add another level)
Thanks again

Rick

That didn’t look correct, lets try it again (Formatting got rid of the spaces, I inserted dashes)

/ON1
and what I got was 170 videos all in one mass on the screen, what I’d like to get to… would be some thing like this:
/ON1 (this being the only thing in the initial Library view)
—/ON1-ATS (8 videos)
—/ON1-Blend Mode ( 5 Videos)
—/ON1-Photo Raw ( 7 videos)
—/ON1- Light Room ( 9 Courses 143 Videos)
--------/Course 1 (9 vid)
--------/Course 2 (21 vid)
--------/Course 3 (14 Vid)

From my experience this is going to appear to sort of work but you’ll never get it correct. I do something similar for educational material and for NFL.

The problem with the TV Show section is that it wants to see:
/root
/root/Show Name (Year)
/root/Show Name (Year)/Season X
/root/Show Name (Year)/Season X/Episode

Where you have “Course X” is where it expects Season X.

Out of curiosity have you tried the OTHER VIDEO library type?

Other Video is what I tried first.
I’ll keep trying till I get the right combination or, settle for some combination :anguished:
PS. I have read about 22 pages of 43 of your tips and tricks (still working through it), I’m stunned! Thanks for your insights.

I use the TV Show library for music videos, which is something it was not at all designed for. It works pretty well. I created a “show” for every artist and used Artist - S01Exx - Song Title as my naming convention. I downloaded a nice backdrop for each video and named it the same as the video, except for the extension. I downloaded artist poster and fan art. I even created a text file where I store information about the artist and each video that I entered into Plex by hand. If I ever lose the library, I have everything in the directory structure. The results look great in most Plex clients and skins.

Downsides with this approach:

  • You are stuck with the hard-coded episode sort order you put in your file name.
  • You cannot avoid having a Season folder to navigate through with most Plex clients.
  • It takes a very long time to manually collect all the pieces and parts and put it all together.
