How does plexamp populate the Audio device list?

I’m trying to get snapcast to work with plexamp (until the official plexamp multiroom is available).
I’ve been advised that there are a few different approaches:

  1. have plexamp broadcast audio directly to a virtual sink (i.e. set audio device output in plexamp)
  2. capture plexamp audio output with alsa (i.e. system backend stuff)

considering my limited linux knowledge and skills, I would imagine option 1 is the easier/simpler choice.

So my question is, how do I get a virtual sink into plexamp’s audio device output list?

I think if you added a virtual ALSA output it would show up in the list; I actually started the multiroom thing with snapcast a few years ago and it was working fine, but exhibiting sync drift and latency issues, which is why we moved away from it.

Cool thanks for the info.
I still have no idea how to do it all, but I hope to figure it out at some point.

Keep up the great work with Plex
