I’ve been using Chromecast 4K for a while but I can no longer work with all the lags and various issues. I mostly play 4K high bitrate content, and I won’t care for lossless audio for some years (not until my current audio system dies).
The Shield is too expensive for such an outdated device (and it’s starting to give some issues despite still being the most favorite Android box), and the other devices such as Dune, Homatics, etc, they are just too unstable since I’m a “out of the box” kind of person, and I just want something that works. Also, I’m in Portugal so my options are limited.
So either I’ll get a ATV 4K or a Google TV Streamer.
For those two devices, does any of them - with the Plex Client obviously, work well in terms of DV, HDR10+, and also, are there any audio sync issues?
GTV streamer works well for me, DV, no HDR+ support on my Sony set tho.
Of course I only have 2.0 system with Wiim Ultra. Still trying to figure out the best settings.
I can have plex transcode DTS to AAC, or Direct play from Plex with I imagine the TV doing the conversion, depending on my settings.
your system?
Can’t wait to come back to Portugal and walk the Camino again.
FYI, back in January of 2024 my TCL Roku TV’s backlight went out and so I purchased a TCL Google TV and while the ads on the home screen were really annoying, I returned it because the Plex for Android app was lacking features that are on the Roku app - like viewing actors in an episode, or movie etc during playback.
I don’t know what the feature parity is between the current apps these days are, but I for one will keep using Roku for a long time to come.
I now have a Roku Pro TV and I’m super happy with my choice.
Take my option for what it’s worth,I just want to know they’re are more options out there for Plex (and thousands of other apps) that are =/> Android - plus, I didn’t like that the Google TV settings were even more complicated than my Android phone!
