How is the media matcher this stupid?

Server Version#: 4.76.1

Recently acquired another film and tossed it in my collection. Never saw it pop up in the interface but had more important things to do. I finally got around to hunting it down and am really disappointed in how braindead the match was.

File: …/Brazil/Brazil.mkv
Resulting match: Rio (2011, animated)

I hit Fix Match and the film I expected was the 2nd hit after Rio, and a TON of other films actually having Brazil or Brasil in the name are also there. So why the hell did it pick Rio? At least if it picked some random Brazil movie then I’d have found it in the interface and fixed it instead of trawling through logs and moving the file around on my server.

You are not following the naming standard

See: Naming and organizing your Movie files | Plex Support

I assume you are talking about this movie ?

If so, name it like:

Brazil (1985) {imdb-tt0088846}/Brazil (1985) {imdb-tt0088846} [Maybe other info, like H264].mkv

Since Plex isn’t the only thing touching my collection I can’t/won’t use the full recommended naming convention. But even so, 350+ films without any real issues. This instance sticks out as unnecessary and inexplicable. The system expects a film title takes that title and then comes back with a film of a completely different title? Yes Brazil is mentioned in the plot, but really?

Your call then…

And you might be lucky with only adding (YEAR) to both folder and file

To add to Dane22,

“Title (Year)” works for multiple servers is also the recommended naming.
I have never had Plex mismatch a title formatted this way

If I may offer a small sample (which FileBot changes with ease)

You didn’t provide a year so it most likely picked the most popular movie with “Brazil” as one of its titles (Rio (2011) - Release info - IMDb)
