I have a (seemingly) rather small library with 650 movies and 45 TV shows, but am glad to see this thread. I haven't tried using collections, but think the way it's set up now works best for compilations. I also have a rather large music library that I'm slowing adding--mostly because of the time consuming/never ending tag editing. Any tips here are appreciated.
I'm currently sharing with my buddy in DC, though he hasn't been active in a while.
Mp3tag is the program I use to add the tags to the mp3/flac files. It's a freeware, it works well, has an inner search to properly tag your files to recognized albums, and once properly tagged, it makes Plex identification process much easier.I have a (seemingly) rather small library with 650 movies and 45 TV shows, but am glad to see this thread. My collection is growing slowly. Currently have 2878 movies and 415 tv shows. These are all sitting on 12Tb of external usb hard drives.
I share with 8 friends (4 of them every day) via a 100/20 unlimited fibre connection.
In Feb 2015, my fibre provider will be taking our city to 1000/500 unlimited fibre for cheaper than my current speed.
Well...yall all make my < 300 movies look silly. (Plus a half dozen TV shows I have on DVD ripped into plex as well)
1623 Movies (mostly in 1080p)
57 Series (5490 Episodes)
Shared with some friends and my parents.
All on a 24/7 Windows Server 2008 R2 with an i5-4570 with 8 Gigs of Ram and 24 TB HDD's.
Just takes 30 Watts when the HDD's are in sleep-mode.
The Server also contains a Webserver, Teamspeak 3 Server, Cloud-Storage and so on...
Scored a major coup today...
Bought 23 James Bond DVD's in a Digitally Remastered Collectors set from a guy on Craigslist today for $50.
Woo hooo (late night rip-a-thon going on now).
Approaching 600 movies now.
Nice grab. It's a shame you couldn't have gotten the Blu Ray version like here: http://www.amazon.com/Bond-50-Complete-Collection-Blu-ray/dp/B006U1J5ZY
That's the version I ripped and man did it take a while!
I love adding "collections" of movies. It just seems like your library is "fuller" some how when you have collections of movies (Harry Potter, Star Trek, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Terminator, Superman, etc). Nothing like a weekend marathon without the commercials!

I agree for many collections but for some the quality deteriorates so rapidly that having the whole collection is just a waste of storage. See RoboCop (The original), Halloween, The Exorcist, The Omen, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street and many others where the first movie was good or great and the subsequent were a bit of a step down.
Of course there are several where the second was better than the first like Mad Max, Terminator, Alien, The Godfather and others but that is bucking the trend.
Then there are several that are fun because the whole series is so bad like Hellraiser, Tremors and others. This is the category that are often the ones I am actually most likely to binge on as they are fun and funny and should I fall into a nap I will not really miss anything important.
I gt the Matrix trilogy, the Bounrne series (all 4), and all 4 Shrek movies all on Blu-Ray fro christmas.
Mother of God the matrix movies took forever to rip @ 1080p (I'd forgotten how long they were)
So yes...I agree that adding full sets is fun, but often times involves owning a few crappy movies just to say you have them all (like the second Transformers movie...blech)

Movies 991 (probably even split between 720p and 1080p) TV Shows 134 shows (some 1080p, most at 720p, and older shows at 480p)
My PMS is sitting at around 11tb running on unraid
@anEightiesGuy I don’t think there’s another one, first one was bad enough, only the ones with (collection) next to them have multiples, going through my library -
Currently 2325 movies and 172 tv series -
there are so many sequels, trilogy’s, quadrilogys and collections (James bond and carry on) that I wish one of these feature requests would get noticed and implemented

I went on a bluray buying binge last month - I added 40 new movies. As long as Walmart, Best Buy, and BJ's keep their bargain bins out, I'm sure I'll keep adding. The average price for all 40 was under $5 each. :D
Woody1130, my bad on arachnophobia--I reread your post (and saw you opened this thread) and edited my original post to not come off dense. Looks like you beat me to it though.
Completely agree on the requests though. Would love to see collections grouped when browsing my library. It would be great to avoid the clutter, but also better for looking at collections where their names don't put them in any logical order (or sometimes don't put them near each other at all).
I’ve got 1273 movies, nothing pre-2000 as I don’t like to rewatch anything older than that, and I’ve seen everything under the sun the past 40 years and some back even further. I also have 87 TV Shows …complete. I don’t use my server for anything other than that. The problem I face because of being a movie buff my whole life is that I have seen everything not counting movies nobody has heard of. Unless it’s something new there’s not usually much for me to watch. I subscribe to Netflix but can never find anything I haven’t seen on there either. As far as TV shows its the same for that. There are indeed plenty of shows I have not seen but they are usury ones I don’t want to watch.
I would like to develop amnesia just for my memory of movie and TV lol then I could start all over again and watch 40 years worth of entertainment. It’s really sad having a large server of content that you have all seen multiple times. I’m sure many of you are in the same boat I am.
As far as sharing goes, I share with one friend.
I was in that boat in college. I had a Blockbuster (remember those?) movie pass where I could rent unlimited movies, 2 out at a time. Since blockbuster was across the street, and next to Walmart & subway...I would sometimes get 2 movies a day.
It was a sad, pathetic day the day we walked in an there were only 2 movies on the new release "wall" (it was all 3 walls around the store) we hadn't seen (kids movies & obvious trash notwithstanding). Since then, however, I have run out of time for such things and hardly get to watch new movies anymore

Hopefully someone will invent a movie deletion system so you can delete your favourite movies from you memory to rewatch them
Kind of like an Un-Total Recall. So that you can watch a film with the exact same feelings as the first time you watched it.
Somewhere In Time, just isn't the same movie once you see...
the penny in his hand!
Yeah, that would be great.
