I wish to block movie ratings (ie IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes) as I do not want another party to set expectation of any film I am about to watch. I cannot see any way of doing this in the GUI, is there any way at all of blocking ratings on movies? I enjoy Plex, but this is a real issue for me.
You cannot currently do that. There’s a feature suggestion asking for an option to select “none” as a rating source – though it’s seen little interest by the community so far (=number of votes).
Ok thank you. Surprised it has not much traction, I would of thought there are a lot of people who feel the same. I might have to stick to using VLC, I prefer to go into movies blind and this seems to be the only way to do that.
Also surprised it is considered a request of little interest.
For some time I get complaints that at least a third of the screen is wasted to display foreign language reviews and ratings which noone ever reads.
I seconded the request.
Disabling reviews is yet another suggestion (rather more popular)
I go in blind too. I’ve never trusted user ratings anyway, so the “X out of 5 stars” graphics or review percentages have just been filtered out of my mind on all sites automatically. And the large row of reviews I guess I also manage to ignore until I want to look at it.
Using Plex HTPC I don’t see reviews, but the OP asked about ratings. So using HTPC to view my Home screen full of various films and using the keyboard to place my selection box on a film, I see covering the top half of the screen:
Title
Year, Runtime, Genre, PG-13 type rating, Watched status
[Plot]
[Actor names]
which seems like all I need to get one thing straight from the next and play it. There’s no IMDB rating in sight.
Also if I
- Short press the Return key on that film, I go to the film summary page with IMDB rating
- Long press the Return key on that film, I bring up a context menu where I can Play without ever seeing the IMDB rating.
So I would like to offer that small workaround where you get what you have asked for, at the times when it’s critical. Is it perfect? No. But you’ll forget that as soon as something great like Ishtar starts playing.
