How to create my first scanner

Hi.

I am just about to try to create my own scanner.
What I want is a scanner that can pick up movies in the following example formats:
1979 - Francis Ford Coppola - Apocalypse now.mkv
1979 - Francis Ford Coppola - Apocalypse now.eng.srt
1979 - Francis Ford Coppola - Apocalypse now - Extended - 1(2).avi
1979 - Francis Ford Coppola - Apocalypse now - Extended - 1(2).deu.srt
1979 - Francis Ford Coppola - Apocalypse now - Extended - 1(2).eng.srt
1979 - Francis Ford Coppola - Apocalypse now - Extended - 2(2).avi
1979 - Francis Ford Coppola - Apocalypse now - Extended - 2(2).deu.srt
1979 - Francis Ford Coppola - Apocalypse now - Extended - 2(2).eng.srt

I am using:
Server Version#:1.13.4.5271
NAS: Synology ds3617xs

There are very many posts about creating scanners, but I can’t find a single one which answers the following questions:
1 - When I use a script (python?) - how do I pick up the in-data to the script?
2 - What is handing this data to the script? Do I have to know? Is it the Plex app itself?
3 - How is the script supposed to return the information year, director name, name of movie? Do I return with named variables, strings or what, and in which order?

I have seen several posts where this is talked about, but non which answers the questions. Do you guys have any hints?

I also must add that some information about how folders are organized in relation to the scanner is very much a mystery to me. I want to understand which effect the folders have on scanners, but have only so far found examples of people having problems with one specific folder structure, nothing about how this actually works.
