How to delete all metadata, keep watch status

Server Version#: Version 4.100.1
Player Version#: All

I have plex media server installed on an ubuntu Headless server (Not Docker). Everything works great except I’m starting to, yet again, get poster problems. All metadata is correct, just some random movies, tv series including the episodes, posters are not showing, and can not be added manually through PMS options.

This is completely random, and some new videos will have posters, some won’t. Some episodes in the same series get posters, other don’t.

I use Tiny Media Manager to add all metadata and posters before Plex scrapes. I have turned on Local Assets, etc etc.

This happens every few years, and I need to have PMS dump all the metadata, EXCEPT watch status, and scrape again from my Network source for all information.

Whats the procedure again, using linux? I can’t remember, and can’t find my old bookmarks.

Thanks!

Watch status:

  1. You can let PMS upload it to Plex.tv and have it automatic download when you reinstall

  2. You can extract it manually from the database before you reinstall

Request: Please don’t tag server-linux-tips when asking a question.

server-linux (which is the default tag) is more than enough.

How do I go about extracting it manually? Is there a guide?

Will do on the server-linux-tips tag.

To extract manually, you want to:

.dump metadata_item_settings metadata_item_views

If you are keeping the server and just need to reset your metadata there are 2 other methods you can do.

1 - Recreate your library. This basically starts you over. This will not remove watched status. Although if things do not match back to the same thing, the watched status won’t line up.

2 - Find your Plex Application Data folder and delete the “Metadata” folder. This is where all the poster info is saved. Restart PMS, you should see blank images for everything. Refresh each library and you should see the posters get re-added.
