Redownload Metadata

It seems obvious to me that my C:\Users\chad\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Metadata is full of LOTS of copies of movie and TV Show posters that no longer exist in my library. For example, I record the “Today Show” every day, but only keep three of them. There are a HUGE number of exact copies of the same “Today Show” poster in my my “Metadata” folder, one for each episode of the last two years.

Since it appears that Plex doesn’t clean out old Metadata, is there a way that I can simply delete “Metadata” folder, and then convince Plex to re-download everything it needs ? In doing my research, it sounds like this might be difficult.

If I delete the entire “Metadata” folder, it sounds like I might end up with a “gray poster” for each show/episode, and Plex won’t download a new copy.

True ?

I experimentally tried this myself, and sure enough, lots of grey blocks for movie posters. Thankfully, I saved the directory first, and put it all back.

I also took the trouble to example ALL the jpg’s within my Metadata/TV\ Shows directory.

Turns out the majority of the 725 images in there are images from “The Office” and “The Big Bang Theory”. I stopped recording these two shows from Live TV about a year ago, and deleted all the episodes from my “TV Shows” library. So why are the jpg’s (posters) still in my “Metadata” directory ?

If you feel there’s leftovers or no longer needed media, trigger Settings > [Server Name] > Manage > Troubleshooting > Clean Bundles
