I’m bumping this, because it’s a perpetual problem. All of the relevant info is in the first post.
As a summary, all I want to do is delete the duplicate media, and not have Plex “re-discover” the remaining version. I can and will provide logs - the problem is, the rediscovery can happen anywhere from a few hours to a few days later, so it may be tough to get a set of logs that will contain the necessary info.
Hoping it’s an easy fix and something I am doing wrong, and I don’t have to go delete the unwanted duplicates individually using the web interface.
if your SD files are physically deleted (removed from the sd tv shows path), then plex should not be re-discovering them.
Via the plex web admin, I can delete tv show at the show level, the season level, and the individual episode level.
if deleting anything through plex comes back after re-scanning that means seems to mean there is a permissions issue and plex is not really deleting the file(s).
You can confirm this by deleting an episode, then looking in the applicable sd tv show folder to see if the file is actually deleted.
If not, then you need to figure out your permissions problem.
When plex does delete a file, it is permanent and it doesn’t come back.
