Server Version#: 1.31.0.6654-7000
Player Version#: Apple TV 8.14(4835)
Playing video on Apple TV app from files stored on Synology DS1621+ NAS (DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 4) and the playback is choppy. NAS is connected via ethernet cable to the Apple TV. Same choppy playback happens in same place of video file when I try and play the files directly from my NAS over the network on my MacBook.
I’ve tried adjusting a heap of different settings of app and media server via the web, but still getting choppiness. The only way I can get files to play “clean” is to lower the “Home Streaming” setting on AppleTV app down to 8Mbps, 1080p HD or lower. Even then, it just barely manages.
The frustrating thing is I’ve been using Plex for years without a problem. Just started in the past six months maybe?? So I’m thinking that perhaps I would be best to downgrade the PMS server version on my NAS back to an older version to see if the problem persists.
I assume I can simply uninstall the current version from the NAS and then reinstall the older version but…I can’t find where to download the older version for Synology NAS. And is it Intel or ARM??
I’ve been googling and tweaking settings all afternoon and cannot get it to play properly. Please help - I’m so frustrated!!
Thanks for your help. Do you know when that version was released? This problem has been going on for several months and I want to be sure that I go back far enough.
Given your first appearance here in the form shows as Feb 18th doesn’t help much either.
It might be better to recreate the problem, attach the log files, and then let us look so we can guide you.
I say this because Synology NAS CPUs aren’t the fastest / strongest and you might be fighting against a limitation of the NAS which we can show you how to work around.
