How to Get Intel ARC working on Linux with PMS

To preface I understand that intel ARC is not officially supported by plex. However, I have seen numerous posts on this forum with users claiming to have gotten ARC HW transcoding working.

I unfortunately, have not been so lucky.

I have tried to get ARC working on Ubuntu server versions 22.0.4 LTS with HWE and 24.04.

The kernel should support intel ARC out of the box for both of those versions, and PMS even sees the ARC card as a hardware transcode option. However, with both versions of Ubuntu PMS does not actually use the ARC card and instead falls back to full software transcode.

I tried installing the intel GPU drivers from the intel website, but that did not work either. (It is possible I did something wrong with the driver install, but no errors where reported when installing)

If you got intel ARC to work on your Ubuntu server with PMS I would love to know how you did it.

Try version 1.40.2.8395. Sounds like a few with the ARC GPUs have had success. It’ll be easier to switch between versions if you use the Docker image.
