I’ve got a DSL connexion to bring Internet to my plex Media Server, so 1mbps upload, something like 125ko/s.
When I load a video, it reach the 125ko/s, but when I load a photo it never load more than 80ko/s speed and is mainly near to 25ko/s, and so, the photo take a lot of time to display (30s or more).
Is there a way to improve this upload speed ? To force Plex to send to the maximum speed quickly, please ?
Still no answer…
I’ve tried to use “Photo” through LAN connexion, and it seems to be the same problem : it doesn’t use the Gigabit local connexion at all. It’s as slow as when used in remote mode.
“Photo” could be a really usefull and amazing feature in Plex… please, fix it !

I cannot reproduce this issue on my end, would you mind providing some logs.
First recreate the issue by browsing your photo library that is slow, then go to Settings → Server → Help → Download Logs to grab the log files. Also just make sure “Enable Plex Media Server debug logging” is enabled in Settings → Server → General and make sure Verbose logs are NOT enabled.
Thanks for your answer.
You’ll find the LOG attached.
Let me know if it help, please.
(the load of images in the end of those logs give different example : image doesn’t laod at all, image load after long seconds and image load well quickly)
I did look at your logs when you posted them but couldn’t find any smoking gun and planned getting back to it but only have so much time in the day unfortunately and it fell off my radar, my apologies.
This is definitely not normal and haven’t seen it reported by other users, although photos could take a while to load in certain scenarios if for instance you’re trying to open very large images on slow hardware. I see your server is on Synology NAS with an arm processor which are generally not the quickest things around. How large and in which format are your photos? Do you notice it taking less time on smaller photos?
First of all : thanks for your work and your answer @drzoidberg33 .
I made some test, to open it took (using the remote access, so the ADSL upload @125ko/s max) :
4 seconds for a JPeG of 36ko (519 x 617);
16 seconds for a JPeG of 783.9ko (2228 x 1712);
33 seconds for a JPeG of 5.3mo (4000 x 3000).
In my previous tests, it shows that loading time was kinda the same using remote access or LAN access.
Dunno if it give you any advice…
I’ll make a test installing a test Plex server on my computer (based on a Intel i5 so more robust than my Synology ARM), I’ll give you the feedback, probably tonight (from France).

Of course it is normal in Plex and people have complained about Photos being slow as hell since just about ever. It would be better to ignore the posts than give user a run around.
@jomofcv → It’s slow, it’s been slow and I bet it will be slow in a year. Use Plex Photos only if you must. Google Photos on iOS, Web or Android is much much faster. Not to mention other features you get with Google Photos (which i personally do not use - but I want to swipe from picture to picture on iPad without 3-4 second delay between each picture)
