I’ve decided that what I was using Plex pass for just wasn’t worth the cost, and have one remaining activity for removing Plex pass remaining - how do I get my server back to a state that doesn’t require a plex pass login to use it? One of the problems I have is that my internet is a bit janky and goes out at the worst of times, and the requirement that my server needs to login means that every time my internet goes out, I can’t use Plex (which is a more than a bit ridiculous for a server that provides offline content and also a big part of the reason why I’m getting rid of Plex Pass, but I digress).
So, is there a way to revert my server to not require a Plex.tv user to be signed in? I’m really hoping the answer isn’t to uninstall and reinstall, then having to reindex all my content, etc…
@trumpy81 Yes, I’m very aware of what this gives me, and I got plex pass specifically for the feature that allowed multiple accounts to have different access levels (i.e. “User Control” in the page you linked to). There is literally no other feature that I wanted or used, it’s the fact that it “phones home” to validate my account’s standing is the problem that makes Plex unusable for me and what I’m trying to get rid of.
@OttoKerner Prior to purchasing Plex Pass, I was using Plex perfectly fine though-out the house without having to sign into anything on all the clients I cared about (Mac and Xbox), I just wanted to have better control over what content my son could watch. However, the user control turned out to not be that great (especially on the Xbox, since it would typically just allow the last user in without needing to actually login), and the sign-in requirement just made it so that the times when I wanted to use it the most, it was completely unavailable. I’ll look around at the links you sent to see if I can figure out a way there, thanks!
I’d love to know how to remove the sign in requirement as well. I am trying to deploy this on a corporate network, internal LAN only so there’s no requirement for account, no requirement for permissions. We specifically do not want it to talk out to the internet.
Here too!
LAN usage only and I don’t want it to call home.
I already removed an IP adresse in Preferences.xml which was located in Germany, Frankfurt.
This makes Plex very unattractive. Hidden IPs, no control over the own Media Server without being logged in …
