How to update server on FreeNAS 11.2?

I am not sure what do I need to do to update the server on FreeNAS. In the settings I am seeing this msg:

Version 1.17.0.1709 An update is available. [Please install manually.]

But I am not sure how to install manually. Its installed inside a FreeNAS 11.2 jail. I usually do the following to update the server:

service plexmediaserver_plexpass stop
pkg upgrade -y
service -R

But its not updating. So is that because the FreeBSD still has the old version? And eventually it will catch up? Or is there something else I need to do. My version of FreeNAS is: FreeNAS-11.2-U7

What’s the version you get from packge? Via pkg info plexmediaserver(or plexpass)?

This should match the port if it was already built, it can take a bit to happen though (some times even days).

The notification comes from plex itself and checks directly on downloads.plex.tv, however, that wouldn’t be ready to install on FreeBSD, it needs the port/pkg, so you’ll always see that notification a bit earlier than the port/pkg updates.

yes that matches what I have. So looks like the port is still pending. Do you know who does the port? Plex staff or just volunteers?

The port is maintained by a FreeBSD ports maintainer, he usually doesn’t take long update it, but it’s a manual process so sometimes it might take a bit more.

That said at least lately it’s been pretty fast I would say.

Thanks. So has there been a freeBSD stable update after: 1.17.0.1709? Maybe not because I don’t see the update come down. Is 1.18 stable on FreeBSD? I guess I can wait, there is no rush. Someone will eventually port the last stable version.

the last stable on PORTS at this moment is 1.18.2.2058 which is the same on plex.tv too, so not sure where you’re checking this info, maybe its not the port but the package?

Hi Mike, I was able to figure this out and fix it myself. The issue was that by default, FreeBSD only looks for “quarterly” updates and not the latest. So I went to this file:

  1. /etc/pkg/FreeBSD.conf
  2. And then changed it to latest instead of quarterly

that was it. Now it updated to the latest version. Posting this just in case anyone else out there might be struggling with this issue.
