PLex is and has worked beautifully for me for years. Recently, in my smart home I’ve added Sonos speakers, and have Echo show’s in both the kitchen and living room. The center of my smart home is a Hubitat hub, but I have never figured out how to connect it to Plex.
Recently Amazon added ‘Multi-room music’ - the ability to create a group of Echo dots and house speakers. I can use that with external services but not with plex.
Generally the voice command is ‘Alexa, play Jetthro Tull on Whole house’. (whole house is the name of my speaker group). that will give me Iheart radio or some such service. When I say ‘Alexa, Ask Plex to play Jethro Tull on whole house’. I get ‘playing music by Jethro Tull’ but it’s only on the local echo dot. I suspect the ‘on whole house’ is ignored or invalid.
How can I use this feature with my server? It’s a great feature from Amazon, syncronized as well… so very benefical.
One idea I had was to connect DLNA to the Hubitat and build code to handle the search but thats a lot of work and my Groovy code work is crap. Does anyone have thoughts to offer?
