How would I add an episode number to these shows while keeping the date?

Okay I hope I’m making sense here. I prefer my pro wrestling shows to be by date and year rather than by Episode and Season number as there really are no seasons in pro wrestling as it’s 52 weeks a year.

Anyway here’s how my 1999 Monday Night Raw shows are labeled.

This is what it looks like when I click on my 1999 season.

I’m completely happy with how everything looks except for one thing. In some devices such as the iOS app and on the FireTV app no matter what episode I select, the first episode gets played. I believe that the issue is that I have no episode number which is screwing things up. For some reason everything works great on the WebApp and on my AppleTV.

Is there anyway to add an Episode number while keeping the date? What would be a better way to label these?

Listing them like they’re found at TVDB would be a good way to keep the date - because when they match at TVDB they’ll get a date with all the other information:
http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=76779&lid=7 - WWE Monday Night Raw
http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=75155 - WWE Raw is War

You’re trying to combine two different shows into one listing - not possible unless you put them into an ‘Other Videos’ library then you can name them whatever you want. You’ll get no information from the TVDB and have to edit everything by hand or if you choose to just drop 'em in it would be quick and effective albeit ugly as sin.

Given the limited information in your post if you structure and name as they’re listed they’ll draw all posters, artwork and descriptions - with the date. The added benefits are not having to hand edit every one by hand, they play automatically from On Deck one right after the other and you won’t spend countless hours setting up the dates only to have Plex torpedo all your hard work on the first scan because you refused to follow the guidelines.

There are two ways to go apparently - WWE fans can’t seem to make up their minds as contributors to TVDB:

A TV Show Library/
…WWE Monday Night RAW/
…Season 03/
…WWE Monday Night RAW - S03E01 - Mick Foley Did It!.xxx

A TV Show Library/
…WWE RAW is War/
…Season 07/
…WWE RAW is War - S07E01 - Mick Foley Did It!.xxx

Both methods above will get the proper date. You just need to decide which one trips your trigger.

That makes the most sense and is the least amount of labor.
There would be virtually no labor if you employed FileBot (link in my signature). It would probably pre-match your files with TVDB and name everything perfectly for the entire show in seconds.

First of all. Monday Night Raw and Raw is War are the same show. They all aired Monday Nights on the USA Network. For a few years they tried to get edgy and called it “Raw is War” but it’s really the same show and when WWE does “Best of Monday Night Raw” specials they include segments from both.

Second of all the show has been on the air for 25 years so it’s a lot easier to go by year. I’m totally satisified with how my posters look. I don’t need art see below.

I found that the TVDb information wasn’t very accurate and it was constantly deleting my posters which look far better than the TVDb posters which don’t even have posters for each season, so I have it set to “Personal Media”

I have all the dates and everything. My only problem is on the iOS app and the FireTV app if I were to go to 1999 and select say a random episode in June it will play the 1st episode of January.

I don’t care about matching it all I want is for it to have an Episode number assigned along with the date.

Good luck with that.

If I were you I’d put 'em in an ‘Other Videos’ library. You can create a layout that makes sense to you and name them anything you want.

Otherwise you’ll spend countless hours futzing around in a TV Show Library trying to backwards engineer something that’s already working perfectly (but you refuse to capitulate) and the first time Plex scans your TV Show Library all that work will go down the drain.

Might be good, but @chibul nor I can see it because that is a Plex Pass Only Forum.

@JuiceWSA , @chibul
Ah, sorry! Here is the post. And I’m not sure if it will solve it the exact way as the OP wants, but it looks like a possible workaround.

After struggling for some time to try and organize NON movies or TV Shows I finally found a way to pretty easily organize some “personal” media".

SUMMARY
My choice of icons on this last set of images is only temporary and I’ll soon be replacing them with some icons I’ll make specifically for Plex. I just added them to grab some screen shots. This “Learning” library is still a work in progress and I only have about 25% of my DVDs ripped and uploaded. Just started it yesterday.

This way of organizing a library has made it easy to find media. This is especially helpful on the xBox One as there is no search feature. Trying to find an NFL game from last week WAS BLOODY HELL but now it’s a piece of cake.

I know many people struggle with trying to make sense of putting their personal media up in Plex in a way that makes sense to navigate and I think these two different libraries show that this can be accomplished. I’ll be using this technique with a couple of other libraries such as personal family videos, other sports libraries, etc…

HOW TO DO THIS
The “Secret Sauce” to this setup is three things:

  1. Addition of a new Scanner
  2. Addition of a new Meta Agent
  3. Naming your files properly so they “fit” a category in your new library.

Extended Personal Media Scanner
Go to the following thread and download the Extended Personal Media Scanner here: https://forums.plex.tv/topic/88982-rel-extended-personal-media-scanner/
The installation directions may be a bit “off” so this is what you want to do. Follow the instructions give to navigate to the “Scanners” folder. Only don’t put the contents of the zip here yet.
Create a sub-folder under Scanners called “Series” without the quotes. Now find the .PY file in the zip and put this file in the Series folder. You should end up with something like the following:
C:\Users\cayars\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Scanners\Series\Extended Personal Media Scanner.py

Extended Personal Media Shows Agent
Go to the following thread and download the Extended Personal Media Shows Agent here: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/83440/rel-extended-personal-media-shows-agent
Follow the instructions exactly as posted in the first message so you end up with something like the following:
C:\Users\cayars\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins\ExtendedPersonalMedia-Agent.bundle ← this folder/directory will now have both “Contents” and “Resources” in it.

You may want to stop/start Plex server at this point if the next section doesn’t work.

FILE NAMING
You will see the scanner/meta-agent can take various formats of naming and be able to work with them. I’ve found the S2014E01 format to work the best for me especially with sports. If I used date based formats (2014-01-20) then I get results I may not want. For example while the Super Bowl this year will be played in 2015 I don’t want this game or the playoff, etc listed under the year 2015. I want them to be with the rest of the 2014 season. This of course is a personal preference. The date based naming style cold be super using with family movies. Just use the style that works for the library at hand.

I’ll share some file names:
2012 Week 1 NFL
Week 01 - S2012E01 - 49ers at Packers.mp4
Week 01 - S2012E02 - Bengals at Raven.mp4
Week 01 - S2012E03 - Bills at Jets.mp4

2013 Super Bowl
Super Bowl - S2013E01 - Broncos at Seahawks.mp4

2014 Week 15
Week 15 - S2014E01 - Bengals at Browns.mp4
Week 15 - S2014E01 - Broncos at Chargers.mp4
Week 15 - S2014E02 - Cardinals at Rams.mp4

So the format is “category” - “year/episode” - “file name”. Make sure each file has a different episode number.

For my Learning library:
Educator Math - S04E01 - Expressions and Formulas.mp4
Here I’m not using date in the series but just a series number. Course one will be season 01, course two will be season 02, etc.

ADDING A NEW LIBRARY
You add a new library as normal EXCEPT you start by adding a “TV SHOWS” library. Add your folder(s) as normal and then click on “Advanced”
Here you will choose both a different SCANNER and a different AGENT like so (The two we just installed):

Have fun and let me know how this works out for you!

Carlo

Looks good to me.

In an ‘Other Videos’ Library you can do many neat things and don’t have to adhere to TV Show guidelines. The caveat is that you have to get in there and do the work - or just ‘live ugly’.

Sorry if this is a noob question but how/where did you get the season posters on your set up? they look amazing!
