[Humble Request] Android missing cast thumbnails

A long running request that has always been missing from Android app…

Just wondering if we are any closer for this to be added?

I know I know, Plex doesn’t give out timeframes but man! I have been waiting for this for like 3 years+

Thanks

Please Plex Team, can you provide us an ETA? The request has been closed for more than a month but still nothing for Android TV app users :frowning:

Wishful thinking: maybe it’ll be in the next beta since it hasn’t been updated in like a week and a half.

But based on how (un)responsive Plex has been since that original request came in years ago, I’ve just accepted that it probably won’t happen and be pleasantly surprised if it does.

We already said we are doing it. Mobile is done. TV is being worked on. Sorry I don’t have an ETA Feature Request - Show a list of actors in the Android TV app like it is for every other platform - #98 by BigWheel

I don’t mean to sound negative toward you guys, but surely you can understand the frustration, right? While it’s reassuring to know it’s still somewhere on the to-do list, that’s been the answer for years. I remember seeing a post stating it would be included with the “newest UI update”, then nothing. So it makes me wonder, have we still not seen this UI overhaul on Android TV or did the cast list just get delayed? A little bit of extra insight into the progress goes a long way.

It got delayed because there were/are plenty of other issues on Android and quite frankly being able to see the cast was just not that important comparitively. No we haven’t seen the UI overhaul of the preplay/summary screens. Like I said it is currently being worked on as they just recently finished the new mobile preplay/summary screens.

Is there a reason why there is no info of the director shown anywhere in the “finished” mobile layout? That’s the one critical info that is missing.

I think that was a mistake, or some bug, it has been reported.

Thank you for elaborating. That little bit of extra info helps put things in perspective.

Should we worry that there is still no update on such expected feature?
Plus, I (and maybe most android-TV users) don’t agree with your statement that “cast was just not that important comparatively”. I think bug will always be part of Plex (as it is for so many softwares) but this cast feature is a MUST, and we have waited for so long that it should be a priority for Plex devs!

I’m with you there. The overall lack of support I’ve seen in the forums, especially for those of us who spent money on a Plex Pass, is incredibly frustrating. Somehow those FREE live channels and Crackle content just happened to be ready on Android TV as soon as those features were announced, but we’re still waiting on a basic UI element that was promised years ago. So the only assumption I can make is there’s a monetary reason for these shifting priorities, because surely they’re getting a cut of that ad revenue from those streaming sources.

It will take time to do. I’m sorry I don’t have an ETA.

You really need more time? Have a look at this: [Feature Request] Top billed Cast/Actors - Images September 16
Or this: Feature Request - Show a list of actors in the Android TV app like it is for every other platform September 18

I agree, it’s great that this feature is finally available. However, clicking on a cast member doesn’t do anything. I expected doing that would display other content for that cast member. Pretty sure other clients do that.

My guess this will follow.

I hope anyways…

Any update on the cast photos linking to said actors other content, glad to see you guys have been updating the android client/Shield TV Pro experience has been improving! Thank you!

From what I was told it is being worked on but it is not as a trivial thing to add as it seems. I don’t have an ETA
