Feature Request - Show a list of actors in the Android TV app like it is for every other platform

Hi,

Would like to put a request forward for Top billed Cast/Actors - Images in the UI
Like the below screenshot taken from a kodi skin.

Apple TV, Roku, Web App, PMP, LG TV, they all have the cast and crew listed for movies - you can click on them to see what other movies you have that they star in. Why is this missing from the Android TV version of Plex?

Thanks

I came on here to post the same. It’s mind bogging there are no actors in Android (Shield tv cmon!)
I think this would get more votes except people dont really thinking of it as a special feature as much as a standard client offering.

We have been asking for this for over 2 years!

Nothing yet…

crazy. And The issue with actor/cast names in ios is probably worse. It does show actors, however it shows the first three in alphabetical order making it totally useless. I think not having them is actually better as listing some no name actor with a bit part looks silly/confusing.

Just started using Plex on a Shield… the app is great, but I really miss seeing the cast list like I did on my pc! I really hope they add this feature soon… 2 years is a long time to have been requesting it, especially when the cast list appears on other Android devices!

I do not understand how (seemingly) every platform has actor info, but Android does not… Why is this difficult to add?

Don’t get me wrong, I’d rather the srt subs displaying as chapters for English be fixed first, but this should be an easy one.

Edit: I’d be remiss in not thanking the team for the magnificent new music player on Android.

I also think this is important feature to have on Shield client. And yeah, silliness of iOS client implementation is beyond believe…

Yes, please - I think this is a very, very basic feature. Especially since it works on other platforms. Why not on Android TV ?

Please add this.

The entire AndroidTV UI needs to be scrapped and a new version put in place to match the PMP UI/UX ubiquitous on other platforms.

I’m guessing it’s low on Plex’s list of priorities because they haven’t been doing much of anything with the Android app in the past 12 months.

I agree with this.

@TVPlexHD I agree that the Android TV UI needs some love, but I disagree with the statement that the Android app hasn’t gotten love. They’ve added the beautiful new music player and made huge strides with sync…

Edit: to clarify… While the Android music UI on TV hasn’t changed, the Plex guys like @SamFromPlex, explicitly told me that the new gapless playback, etc. (I.e. TREBLE) was indeed running on Android TV, even if it didn’t show up yet in terms of UI… So, if that isn’t true, I stand corrected. I wasn’t trying to be argumentative, just trying to be as fair as possible with the Plex team. :yum:

The thing is, the Android TV app and the Android mobile app are not the same thing. Basically, they are 2 different apps, with a completely different look, UI and features.

Exactly. AndroidTV app has nothing to do with any mobile app. Nothing’s changed with music on Plex on AndroidTV - same as it was in 2017.

Meanwhile Samsung, LG, XBOX, etc. have all received a complete UI/UX overhaul.

Any news on this ?

I bought my grandparents a “mecool m8s pro L” mainly because it was the only box under £100 i could find that had proper “Android TV” and with a bluetooth remote for youtube voice search.

They love the box and also use it for accessing my plex server.

But I do find the android TV plex interface lacking somewhat compared to all other plex clients.

The cast list with images would make it so much better.

There also seems to be a bug where in settings i have set the home screen libraries “webshows” “podcasts” and other stuff to “OFF” but they still show up.

Bare in mind this box is for my grandparents so I want it to look as simple as possible.

I would have much rather got them a roku or fire tv but unfortunately you cant use voice search in youtube.

I’m dying for this fix too… 4K HDR works so much better in Plex than it does with Emby - but I use the cast info for every movie I watch. I love learning more about them and finding other movies they star in… that’s half the fun of having a large library of files! COME ON PLEX - ADD CAST INFO TO THE ANDROID TV APP PLEASE!!

Are there already any statements from the developers on this topic, or do they just ignore the supporters completely?

Let me guess: nobody’s said anything yet?

This should not be difficult… All or at least most other Plex apps have it. So frustrating. =( Even Mr.MC on Android displays this info.
