Player Version#: nothing was playing, only your app deleting
Before email asserting your failure, I had a couple hundred movie files deleted from my media folder. Only two programs write/read from that folder and Plex was the only one active.
I know there is nothing you can do about that, but your security issue is way less shallow than you think.
I will be removing it from all of my computers and reinstalling XBMC in whatever iteration it currently lives.
This is unacceptable for any application to have those kinds of rights with a fresh install. To have the “allow deletion” option to one, be in there at all, but two to have it actually delete without any owner input or any acknowledgment that it will do it. WOW!
If I’m the only account this has happened to, maybe a rogue setting in Plex caused it? Because it was the only app in operation on that PC at that time.
I also brought this up in other forums Monday, that there may be unauthorized access on Plex proper and that it trickled down to the user. That is three days before the email.
Sorry to hear this happened to you and you are not the first to make this claim. However, we have yet to find any case where Plex was actually responsible. We’d loved to be proven wrong so we can get this fixed. If you still have your server logs, I’d be happy to take a look.
If you had said TV shows, then you may have something. There is an option for TV shows that can delete episodes without your consent. However, we have no such mechanism for movies.
Reviewing your account, I do see multiple logins to your account from other countries over the last month. Nothing specific on Monday. It shows these logins used your email and password. These happened well before the current situation, so your account may have been compromised well before all of this. Unless you use something that bounces your connection around the world and this was just you.
If you have not followed the steps to secure your account, I would advise doing that right now.
It’s possible if someone had access to your account, they accessed your server and deleted the items themselves.
