Mysterious Movie Deletion

Server Version#: 1.32.5.7349

Every time I add the movie ‘Burning’ to my server, it immediately gets deleted a few minutes later. The movie simply will not not be deleted by Plex.

Reason?

Logs attached.

Somebody is doing DELEtions on your server.

Did you turn off the flag (Settings - Server - Library) which allows deletions?

If by your question do you mean I switched to allowing media deletion of items in libraries under settings… no I did not recently change to allowing it; I’ve always allowed. If I turn that setting off, the movie will stay. When I turn the setting back on, the movie goes away. But just that one single movie! I never attempted to delete it afaik.

It also looks like someone doing deletions is ‘Benjamin’

A user, sure

But this user should not have deletion rights

The logs are very interwoven right there and it wasn’t clear which username generated the DELETE request.

I can’t say it’s Benjamin but happened right next to that Auth event (which makes sense)

Is the movie ‘Burning’ a MP4 or MKV ?

MKV.

The movie deleted again overnight. I am going to add four copies, will see what happens, will report back. Strange.

Adding four copies won’t help. PMS will merge them into ONE if in the same library section.

I do wonder if it’s being merged into something else “related content” in another library.

I just created this and it stays without issue

I’m sure it’s some weird something on my end.
I was watching on a Shield, paused, there was a long period of black screen so I button pressed the remote a lot (blindly). When the screen came back, the movie was gone (couldn’t find it to resume etc). Fortunately I keep backups. Every time I have added it back, it goes away (mysteriously!) some time later.

UPDATE:
Who know what weird stuff was happening. I also neglected to mention above, temporarily while this was going on, the server became unclaimed, randomly. Able to reclaim easily. Ah, the fun of Plex. wink.

The movie has stayed un-deleted for ~4h now. Perhaps will be here for good. Fingers crossed.

The server is a Linux-based server or running on something else ?
(Unclaimed status can happen if there’s an interruption in Internet just as it’s refreshing authentication… There are safeguards in the server code but it’s theoretically possible . I’ve seen it happen 2-3 times in my time with Plex)

Linux-based.

NEW UPDATE:
Definitely something up. A movie I never watched was randomly deleted by the server at 7am. (I keep backups, and was checking backup logs, and noticed the backup system saw the movie was missing.) As I working on another movie this evening, updating an ASS sub, as I checked it later, it deleted as well! Something is really wrong. The movie deleted at ~7am was the Hours. Queen Margot just “auto-deleted” an hour ago. I have unchecked allow deletion in library options. Hopefully this will forestall more disasters.

Another random unclaimed server incident requiring reclaiming.

Is this SSD or HDD ?

I have noticed the slowness too (in the logs). No, I have no hard drives, it’s an M2 NVME 4TB (on the Proart B550 mobo). I get R/W speeds in the 1-1.5 GB/s range, as expected. Now… the database is on the Linux OS M2 NVME… but when it says

SLOW QUERY: It took 280.000000 ms to retrieve 16 items.

Is it querying from the database or my library? Library is on Thunderbolt (20 Gbps) and 10 Gbe network share RAIDs. These should be fast, too… ~700-900 MB/s R/W. (FWIW, there are 8576 movies, 181 TV shows, 2566 albums in the library. Plex seems to scan through it all pretty quickly.)
