I am trying to use local MP3 metadata, but Plex insists on NOT using it

Hi All,

I have a pretty large library of MP3 files - all meticulously curated and each file’s Metadata edited to be correct. If the Metadata exists, I want Plex to use it. This includes artists name, track name, track number, genre, album cover, etc. The only time I want Plex to go elsewhere is if there’s no album cover, which happens in my collection.

Ok, so of course I have “Prefer local metadata” selected for my Music Library, in Advanced Settings. In Agents, I also have “Local Media Assets (Artists)” selected for my Artists, and “Local Media Assets (Albums)” selected for my Albums.

For some reason, in both Plex Web and in PlexAmp, it insists on not using my Metadata! I can’t figure out why. Here’s an example:

Here you can see that I have the highlighted Title tagged as “Comfort Me (featuring Kiah Victoria)” Imgur: The magic of the Internet

But here you can see how Plex Web displays that track. Where does the “feat.” come from? It seems like it’s just not using my local metadata. I also don’t know why it’s starting at track 0 instead of track 1, but that may be a different issue… Imgur: The magic of the Internet

Any help?

Ok, following up. I just tried to “Refresh Metadata” and it fixed it completely. Even the track numbers. Why doesn’t it read it in correctly upon first scanning and analyzing? Of course, I can’t do that for each album in my collection…

You can apply a metadata refresh on the library if needed. No need to do this album by album (or artist by artist).

Yeah, I’ve done that too.

For some reason, Plex re-scanned my entire library again recently. Not sure why. It’s hosted on a Synology NAS, and maybe something changed and triggered that re-scan, but the metadata didn’t get read correctly. I’m finding strange things that a “refresh metadata” fixes. It’s strange. I think the initial scan didn’t work correctly and for some reason, went to external tag sources to fill in the data…

Do you let the hard drives with your media on them spin down their platters when they’re idle?

No, I don’t.
