Local Metadata not being used

Server Version#: 4.141.0
Player Version#:

New user here, so far not having a great start. My music library is set to prefer local metadata, but the artist field is blank for most files. I’m attempting to view a set of songs by a specific genre and several do not show up because they seem to be using Plex’s own tags and not the ones specified in the id3 tags.

I’ve checked prefer local metadata. I’ve scanned and rescanned my library and refetched metadata, updated the server, restarted the server, cleared my browser cache, optimized the plex database and Plex only wants to show the metadata the way it wants to and not the way I am telling it to. I’m about ready to call it quits and go back to my other media server.

This is sort of a last resort to see if there is anything glaringly obvious I am missing.

What type of music files are you using? Plex cannot read tags from all file types.

They’re just mp3s.

MP3Tag shows me in my collection that there are 165 songs with “Holiday” as the genre. My other media server shows me 165 songs when I choose to view songs under the holiday genre. Plex only shows me 127 of those songs and of those songs, plex only shows the artist field filled in for a handful of the songs.

When I go to edit one of those songs in plex I can see that there is a bunch of values in some field called “mood” and some of the songs have some other genre listed that I would never put in there, nor does it show up in mp3tag. So this tells me Plex is doing its own thing and completely ignoring local metadata.

Can you upload 1 file that Plex isn’t reading properly so i can test it?
