I don't understand why simple alphabitizing by title is not working

I have an “other videos” category in which there are Youtube videos in mp4 format. It use to be that they appeared in alphabetical order but now the sort is weird and I don’t understand it. I must be missing something basic. I want a simple alphabetical order by title of the file name but this is what I see when I click to sort by title.

A reverse sort reveres the list of above but it is also not reverse alphabetical. All the other colums sort correctly. as expected but not “Title.”

What’s going on?

If you edit one of the movies, is there anything in the Sort Title field?

That actually seems to be in order:

H O P R R T Z

The only one suspect of being out of order is A Peanuts, and typically when Plex comes across A or “The” It does Peanuts, A or Peanuts, The

No clue if that works the same way in the Other/Personal videos, but that’s sort of how it works in the regular view for movies…

I have “The 'Burbs” w/ Tom Hanks, and because of this Plex places it as the very first movie (even preceding those with numbers in their titles) because it Ignores the “The” and then looks at the next character, which in this case is a ’

That’s a good catch, I didn’t look very closely. This list is alphabetical if you ignore the article ‘A’ on the one movie. And Plex ignores articles, since it is a pretty standard convention.

If you don’t like the way Plex does this, you can modify the list of article strings that Plex watches for. Details here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201105343-advanced-hidden-server-settings/

I should say, modifying the way Plex treats articles will affect all titles the Plex processes in the future. If you’re just worried about this one item, you can just edit the item and put what you want in the Sort Title field.
