Everytime I disable them publicly a new plex shows up in the list with incorrect boxes ticked, see now there are 5 of them lmfao
Best wait for the paramedic at this point.
You donât want to bleed out before he gets here.
Plex Media Server version? See Server Settings -> General or Authorized Devices.
Do you have hardware accelerated streaming enabled? This will move the transcoding from your CPU to your GPU (it doesnât solve your problem, it just lessens the load on your CPU). In Server Settings -> Transcoder, check the boxes for Use hardware acceleration when available and Use hardware-accelerated video encoding.
The remote access indicator on the Remote Access settings page is sometimes unreliable. To help verify if your system is accessible remotely, use canyouseeme.org. Using a system on your home network, go to canyouseeme.org. Change the port number to 32400 (or whatever port you use for remote access). Run the test. What is the result? Your Plex Media Server must be running when you perform the test.
In Server Settings -> Network is the Enable Relay box checked?
When a remote user is streaming, what is displayed in Plex Dashboard -> Now Playing? Is the user listed as local, remote, or indirect?
Example:

server Version 1.19.4.2935
I can confirm Use hardware acceleration when available and Use hardware-accelerated video encoding are both checked
Can confirm port 32400 is OPEN using canyouseeme.org
Enable Relay is checked
When a remote user is streaming âindirectâ is displayed in my dashboard
Thanks for the information.
Indirect means they are connecting via Plex Relay. The stream is relayed via a server at Plex instead of streaming directly from your computer.
Plex Relay connections are limited to 2 Mbps (1 Mbps if you did not have a Plex Pass). That is why the video is transcoding to a low resolution for your remote users.
Connecting via Plex Relay usually means that Remote Access has not been enabled, is misconfigured, or just not working for some reason. However, the test from canyouseeme.org indicates that your server is reachable directly.
Have you tried streaming to another remote device? Possibly turn off WiFi on your mobile phone and stream a video over the mobile network. If you try this, does the connection still show as indirect?
Just looking for another data point.
Iâm not sure why remote users are connecting via Plex Relay instead of direct to your server.
If all your remote streams connect via Plex Relay, it points to something on your end (server, router setting, ISP problem, etc). If only your sister & friend, then it points to something on their end or something âwonkyâ in the Internet (bad routing, congested ISP interconnections, etc).
I have already tried using my Iphones mobile data to try and connect, it still shows as an indirect connection and transcodes it to SD.
Looks like the issue is on your end of things, since all remote streams are via Plex Relay. This seems odd, as port forwarding appears to be working OK.
Who is your ISP? I noticed a couple of threads from Verizon users. They had to modify some security settings on their Verizon account page to get remote access to work.
Can you attach a screenshot of the port forwarding statement from your router? You can blank out any public IP addresses. Please donât hide your local IP address.
Also pull log files:
- Set your Plex Server for debug, not verbose, logging (see support article linked below).
- Disable remote access.
- Re-enable remote access.
- Wait for status to change from fully accessible to not accessible. Based on your earlier post this happens in less than 30 seconds.
- Wait ~30 seconds for Plex to log everything.
- Pull the logs and attach the zip file to this thread.
Hopefully the log files will show where things are failing.
Iâm stumped.
@BigWheel Any ideas?
One thought is to point a web browser from a remote device at the public IP address. http://x.x.x.x:32400/web/index.html. I expect that would work, since port 32400 is reachable. However, it doesnât show why remote access is not working.
The server is registering with plex.tv.
Jun 25, 2020 14:25:34.284 [10328] DEBUG - PublicAddressManager: Got public IP from http://plex.tv: x.x.x.x
However, remote access is not working for some reason.

Jun 25, 2020 14:30:49.623 [10548] DEBUG - MyPlex: mapping state set to 'Mapped - Not Published (Not Reachable)'.
From the logs on my server:

I would try :
- turning off IPv6 in Network settings if you donât need it.
- if you have multiple active network cards ( like wifi and ethernet) select the interface that should be used for
preferred Network interfacein network settings - I donât know of any specific issues with Cox but in their router see if there is a way to disable DNS rebinding (this may not be an issue with Cox at all just a possibility)
- try a different external port for port forward other than 32400 if you can. (Iâm not sure what the edit page looks like for your router)
I turned off IPv6,
I dont have 2 network cards but I still selected my ethernet as the preferred Network Interface
I didnât find anything on my routers gateway webpage about DNS rebinding, I can see the primary and secondary DNS for my gateway, DNS mode is on DHCPv4
I tried to open port 35000 and it was not able to open, I then tried port 50000, that one wasnât wanting to open either.
I honestly think I just need to buy an aftermarket modem, this modem I have is the stock modem given to me by my ISP, and itâs â â â â tbh haha
Also, weird side note, I am no longer able to access the website canyouseeme.org, it just says this site canât be reached. lmao
Try setting these to 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 respectively, then reboot the modem.
Then reboot the plex server,
and after a few minutes the clients as well.
I canât change my dns on my gateway webpage, but I can change it through network and sharing center in windows, the ipv4 settings. Will that suffice?
Unfortunately not much. Then only the server can benefit from it.
Maybe you should really consider getting a different router. (Or cascade another router behind the ISP-supplied one).
