I’m relatively new to Plex and I’m close to giving it up! I got my server running, libraries mapped. Downloaded the app on Fire TV…seems like I’m all set. Then these two problems happen:
- The Fire TV app says it cannot connect to my server.
- when i open my server, i get a page not found error.
I’m sure these problems have happened to someone else. If you could point me to the right thread or article, I would appreciate it. I’ve searched about 17 times and can’t find my scenario.
Thank you!
Have you tried to access your server anywhere else to verify its plex and not the firetv?
Try it on your cell phone with local wifi and remote…Please reply with the results
If you are trying with Microsoft Edge, use another browser first. Try Chrome.
I am at work, just tried it from my cell phone and I am getting a message stating “Couldn’t Connect to Server”. When trying to launch from the web, it just spins and does nothing.
Thanks!
seems like either a port forwarding problem or you have to run the Plex executable file again and select repair.
And I know this might sound stupid, but is your computer even on?? I helped someone with a similar problem and he forgot to turn off sleep in his computer. Windows or Linux?

I am at work,
Of course try first when at home and in the same local network as your Plex server!
i understand the question, that is the first question in troubleshooting…is it powered on! I will re-run the exe when i get home and report back. Thank you!
Certainly do ALL setting up and testing on your home network.
Don’t even dream about remote access until home is working!!
Ignore the fire initially
Can you see /play movies on your server within Plex??
What is the plex server running on? is it up to date?
Have you tried restarting the server, router, and modem? on rare occasions I have to shut everything down and giving it 10sec and turn it all back on.
Try accessing plex locally from a desktop.
Yeah, it’s a lost cause. I’ve only kept up this far because I have others that depend on my plex library (when it’s dependable, which is not very often). Forget about using it with a chromecast.
I re-ran the exe and it makes the server part run better. Thank you for that tip! After a display of my mad google skills, i think my anti-virus/frirewall is preventing the connection from my fire tv and/or cell phone to the server. So i will hop over to those forums. Thanks for all your help!

the server is running great now…from home. Fire and remote are still out of commission
Your remote connection is being blocked by your router.
You need to do port forwarding.
Enable a NAT/Pinhole/PortForward (called differently depending on model) that allows any WAN connection on Port 32400 to forward to port 32400 on your computer hosting Plex.
What kind of router do you have?
Also, keep in mind that a lot of companies block ports, Plex certainly does not work in my office, but it does on my cell phone on LTE data.
Clear the cache on the firetv plex app… restart the firetv… launch plex and do NOT tell it to login automatically…voila!
After that if there are playback issues we can address those.
As for from work remote viewing… possibility of that port being blocked by IT? Just sayin… we block it at my work.
Sorry i haven’t responded back to this. I use AVG for my anti-virus. Apparently AVG also installs a firewall which was blocking access. I have turned off AVG firewall and everything works great!
