I am not sure what is going on with my Plex media sever

I don’t know what is going on with my Plex Media Server it says its connected but when I go in my Fire TV it shows no content under my media sever on my laptop and in Remote access it says not available outside your network and I don’t know what to do next

You’ll need to tease this apart for me to understand.

Are you saying ‘no content on Fire TV’ and ‘remote access is not available’? So there are two different problems?

Well I am having both problems because on Plex it shows Plex content on the Fire TV App I click on my network name and no content is shown at all.
Also on my Laptop it says no Remote access and I don’t know how to fix that either

I have the same problem. I am unable to access my PLEX server from either my Fire Stick or the PLEX app on my Android tablet. When I check my PLEX server settings, REMOTE ACCESS is red and it says server is not reachable from outside my network. When I attempt to disable and enable REMOTE ACCESS, it goes green for a second or two and then back to red.

I should add that this happened after the recent server update. This was the first time I tried to access it since version 1.18.4.2171 installed.

I had that same problem that you are having

OK, problem solved. It seems to be Windows firewall related, I also just installed a new Windows Insider build and that may have had something to do with it. Simply configuring a port bypass with a command line instruction has solved the problem. If anyone is having a similar problem, try opening a command prompt with administrative rights and enter the following command to open the port in the firewall:

netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name=“Plex Server” dir=in action=allow protocol=TCP localport=32400

After this, disable and then enable Remote Access in your server settings and everything will work fine.

@cooltwou @Barcham Missing content is more likely to be a Fire TV/stick issue than a PMS issue. This topic might help.

Plex libraries not showing on Fire Stick - #27 by Benryder

As for the remote access issue, this post is relevant.

Both these posts are fairly recent.

Thanks for the reply, but if you read my last post you would see that I found the solution to the problem I was having, it was Windows firewall related. As only two things had changed, a Windows version update and a PLEX update, it had to be related to one or the other of those. As it turns out, it was Windows related.

I don’t understand what is going on I tried the Plex on the PS4 and it doesn’t show my home network at all so I don’t understand what is going on with that either

I entered that command in the command prompt and I disabled and cut back on remote access I can see my folders that has the files in Plex but I cannot access anything because it says I don’t have a connection at all so I don’t know what to do next

Also it shows I have full access for about 5-10 seconds and says not Available outside your network and I cannot fix this at all

I still need help here does nobody help people out on here

@cooltwou I’m a little lost in this thread. Please clarify the following:

  1. You are using PMS for Windows 1.18.4.2171

  2. You can’t access PMS from the Fire TV and the PS4? Can you access the PMS from any other client? Can you access the PMS from the server itself?

Let’s ignore the remote access issue for the moment and focus just on the local issues.

I don’t know how to tell what version I am using all I see is Version 4.12.3 & in general I see 1.18.4.2171.
I don’t know how to check to see if I can access content in the server on my laptop

On the server, when you type in http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html in a browser window,
can you locate and play your media?

That showed my content

Can you play the content?

I get a playback error: please check the file exits and the necessary drive is mounted

Where is your media located?

On my laptop in my media folder
