As the title suggests I really wanted to start using Plexamp I mainly use emby for everything but really liked Plexamp after I tried it but how come such a feature rich app doesn’t have a basic play on or cast to. I normally I sitat my desk start playing music on emby and I select play on my denon receiver works great. So I thought I would install Plex sever and installed the windows app and there is no play on or cast to denon I even turned on DLNA on Plex server settings this is a basic feature am I missing something.
Plexamp doesn’t support DLNA casting, as it’s technically limiting and an ancient protocol which wouldn’t support things like gapless, sweet fades, or loudness leveling.
I think your best bet is to get a Raspberry Pi, a standalone DAC or DAC board, and put PlexAmp on it. Plug that into your receiver if you have the spare digital input. Then cast to it using your desktop PlexAmp.
I run an Rpi 2 just fine into my headphone amp this way. That has a USB input, so I don’t even need the DAC. At this point, I’m not sure if I’d even recommend a raspberry pi DAC board since that makes it harder to get a good case for it. I like the Flirc cases and use a Topping D10s which is phenomenal for the money. If you don’t have a digital input on your receiver, the D10s (D10 balanced if you need balanced) will also take care of you - it’s a USB DAC with two digital outputs.
