So how does this relate to Plex?

Provides a arguably better tv guide for DVR than Plex’s current iteration for Australians…

@danjames92 it’s not arguably better, it’s about 2-3 orders of magnitude better. Specifically it’s pristine, hand-curated Australian EPG feed that will allow you to make the most of your Plex DVR. No missing channels, no missing shows, new/repeat indicators, episode numbering, etc

I said arguably that I have no prior experience of using a AU TV guide as a British person living in the UK and saw others recommend it hence the ā€˜arguably’.

Ok, so I’m trying to set this up. Deleted the I enter the URL for the XML and click on next, it goes to ā€œLoading Channel Mappingsā€ then ā€œUnable to load channel mappingsā€.

Did you ever fix/overcome this issue?
I have the same error.

Nope. Last I heard from IceTV is that my logs looked like it was all working fine, so they had sent the logs to Plex for their feedback. Haven’t heard anything since.

It’s not enough of an issue for me to chase it up - Gracenote is FAR from perfect and FAR from what I know IceTV provides, but it’s good enough for my needs.

Get KODI and install add-on Works great! Forget plex

I’ve posted same problem 6 months ago still no fix.

We are working on it right now but it’s obscure only effecting a small number of users

Plex are now zeroing in on the bug

@colinoice I’ve just commenced a trial on the XMLTV, now that LiveTV has been implemented we will make more use of this service than just the DVR of old.

Whilst the IceTV EPG is certainly a significant improvement over the baked in Plex Gracenote EPG guide I’ve noticed a couple of issues which would be great to have fixed.

  1. HD Shows do not have the ā€œHDTVā€ quality set, they are all ā€œSDTVā€ so Plex is unable to distinguish content quality
  2. Not all shows have thumbnails, whilst this is somewhat understandable why not make generic thumbnails for any content that doesn’t have a specific thumbnail, as it makes the whole user experience so much more pleasing, the ā€œShowsā€ section for instance just looks very ordindary with all the blanks.

@kanine69 Issue 2) is something that Plex will address on their side. It’s in the pipeline.

I have been using IceTV since they made the Plex guide feed and it has been improving and they are responsive to fixing any errors and more and more shows have accurate season and episode coding. I had to reinstall the tuners a month ago and tried Gracenote and even when you ignore the fact that they don’t support Rural Australia it is still not that good. If you do a lot of recording IceTV is very good.

Incorrect Post

@colinoice I took the liberty of running a post process script over the XMLTV file prior to Plex processing it, it resolves the content quality issue, and generates a basic thumb for any that are missing. Here is the result, which is a massive improvement in UI for little effort…

Images are created automagically through ImageMagickĀ®

Ok, as an update we have fixed the HD flags in the feed.

Not sure about the viability of the placeholder images on the server end, but something we can look into.

That’s a big help thanks! Placeholder generation was easy with the Open Source tool I used, happy to share the commands if it helps.

Please do.

Here you go, it’s a simple Windows Command File. I changed my ā€œBlankā€ to remove the Plex Logo as that’s not appropriate here…

Imagick is multiplatform so probably has an environment for whatever your IDE is.

any update on this fix? same issue in VIC using a qnap plex server Version 1.7.2.3878.

There’s been a lot of progress and testing in the last fortnight, but still no solution. I have to praise the work being put in by all involved at both IceTV and Plex, but the problem is being very tricky to track down.
