IceTV XMLTV EPG now available for all Australian regions $3:99/month

With the increasing popularity of Computers or NAS servers being used to record digital free to air TV shows IceTV has decided to provide a cheaper Australian XMLTV EPG subscription option. It is ideal for customers who wish to use the IceTV Australian XMLTV EPG feed but are not able to use IceTV’s Full Service with Smart Recording.  It covers all Australian capital and regional FTA transmissions with the exception of the racing channel and shopping channels.

For $3.99 per month (only $1 a week) you get IceTV’s professionally hand curated Australian XMLTV EPG feed that is updated throughout each day right up to primetime to ensure your recordings are not missed due to late programming changes. Importantly, accurate recording is optimised with repeat flags, series and episode numbers where available, and consistent show titles.

You will also receive a bi-weekly email of recommended TV shows and movies for the week or weekend including interesting shows coming soon. The recommended and coming soon shows are also a feature in our free IceTV Guide apps for iOS and Android.

  • IceTV is an accurate, curated guide.
  • IceTV is optimised for recording TV.
  • IceTV is updated throughout the day.
  • IceTV’s XMLTV EPG feed covers all regions in Australia.
  • We advise a final refresh just before prime time.

Thx for this information. Would it be possible to see an example of the guide? Are shows correctl flaged as new/repeat? And is the event in the right groups of shows, movies, sports & news with their sub-category like (e.g. comedy, etc.)?

Hi, it’s a yes to all of those questions. For example, we try very, very, hard with repeat flags and 1st episodes can vary across regions so it takes a lot of time. A list, and my apologies that it’s a bit old, can be found in b2b.icetv.com.au under “technical”. Our forum also has some very helpful IceTV evangelists who let us know quick smart if we have an error, normally many days before airing.

Appreciate the competitive pricing for Plex users colinoice. I’ve been impressed with the trial and will be continuing with the service when that expires at this point.

I hope you spoke to Plex before deciding to advertise here as I’m sure it’s against their rules.

Let’s not forget there’s duplicate posts too…

So how does this relate to Plex?

Provides a arguably better tv guide for DVR than Plex’s current iteration for Australians…

huh…I wasn’t aware you could change the EPG source for Plex DVR

I did get Elan’s permission. The double post was my fault, a mistake and unintentional.

What duplicate post? :smirk:

@“MovieFan.Plex” beat me to it!

HI colinoice, how often do I need to update your XMLTV EPG?
Do you have a guide for using this in plex as I have a Qnap NAS and I don’t know how to make the path to the XMLTV EPG.
Thanks

Hi perfectv,

We advise that the guide is updated at least 3 times/ day with the most important, assuming you mainly watch prime time shows, at between 5:50pm and 6:00pm to catch any late changes made by the networks.

You can find all the setup instructions at https://www.icetv.com.au/plex

I was using IceTV via XMLTV using the 1 month free trial on IceTV and have found it to be very accurate here in Melbourne, Australia. As such I have now subscribed - I considered $8 a month a little rich, but the $4 price tag for XMLTV only made sense to me for some reason. Now, we just have to get Plex to refresh the programme guide more than once a day  Blueskies, Paul

Thanks @colinoice for providing this option to solve the biggest issue we have in Oz with Plex DVR ie. the Gracenote default EPG, which frankly sux the big out anywhere outside of continential USA.

Question on the setup, it states that the Plex setup to "Uncheck the box for “Enhanced Program Guide” in the setup. By doing this don’t we lose the ability to add meta-data, art work/covers, series etc. data that Plex provides, once it has identified the TV show?

Hi mikeyman22, Thanks for your support which is very much appreciated. We are sourcing TV artwork and extra metadata and will have similar movie metadata asap, hopefully in the next 2 weeks. So you right now, with the box “Unchecked”, you should see rich TV show metadata with movies not far down the track.

Ok, so I’m trying to set this up. Deleted the I enter the URL for the XML and click on next, it goes to “Loading Channel Mappings” then “Unable to load channel mappings”.

Hi BastardSheep, definitely an interesting situation, we have had a couple of user report the same issue downloading the guide, will message you direct to get some more info

I was going to open up a ticket with IceTV when I got home from doing a few errands. As it turns out, they contacted me before I returned. So a ticket is open. Once the problem is resolved I’ll post here what it is so others can learn in case they get it too.
