IDEA: A simple way to copy meta data between cross platform servers

Many of us faced the problem: you have a large server with media not found in databases (every live Phish concert for example) that you manually and meticulously added custom art and text details for. Now you move from Plex Media Server on Linux to Windows or Android TV and you can’t copy over your Plex server backup and have to do it ALL. OVER. AGAIN.

Compatibility issues aside, a great feature that in theory would be simple to add would be metadata search from YOUR OWN SERVERS. For example, I have a perfectly setup Plex Media Server on a PC. I have a 1:1 cloned backup hard drive set on an Nvidia Shield that lacks many many artwork and text details so painstakingly created on the original PC server.

From a browser GUI, I can access both servers in drop down menus. The Shield server should be able to look at the PC server to scrape data and artwork from. Is this yet implemented? IF not, this is my most requested feature to conquer the cross-platform server data issue.

There’s already a feature suggestion for that

Thank you. I’m glad that others wish the same. Maybe my suggestion is a decent short term solution? Obviously this won’t work for people without backup drives, but for those of us who do, it would be simple.

I briefly got excited to try my idea by scraping with the “Personal Media” option. This did not work and I am unsure what this option actually does.
