I'm having multiple issues, how can I do a clean reinstall of plexconnect?

I've been updating my plex every month or so, I do this by downloading the zip file and overwriting all of the previous files.  I don't understand "gits" or "commits"  so I do it that way...

Anyways, I love plexconnect, it plays all my files fine but I am having these problems:

- in the tv section, on deck doesn't work anymore, it shows 'accessing trailers' instead

- in tv settings, hide synopsis, I choose to show the synopsis, but this setting never stays on and my synopsis' always show they're hidden

- can't seem to change artwork anymore

I figured maybe a clean install of plex might solve everything.  Besides deleting plex, are there any settings in windows I would need to delete?

Also, how can I get plexconnect to always run on my computer? Instead of always having to open that plexconnect.py file.

And thanks for all of your hard work.  You've made my appletv3 usable!  :)

Just backup the certificate folder and throw the main folder away.
Add the certs back and you should be good to go.

So yes, How do you get plexconnect to autostart everytime I reboot my pc.

There is currently no official, supported way to have Plexconnect autostart. There are various solutions in this forum depending upon your operating system. For OSX there is an Applescript and the Plexify.app (see the threads for each). There are Windows .bat file solutions (search the Windows threads) and various Linux approaches (search for your flavour of Linux). There is an OSX/Linux daemon script being worked on as well but it is not finished yet.

The daemon code works fine on Linux.
The OSX one works in a test branch but just needs a little tidying up.
The windows auto start methods are unofficial.

Thanks, but this doesn't help.  I have been looking and seem to find it.  So can someone guide me to this?

To what? What operating system are you on? We need a bit a help from you here.

windows 7

Thanks for the assistance foobar. Still can’t seem to get the tv on deck option working. Still shows accessing trailers…

My workaround for not having plexconnect autostart is to leave my computer on and put it to sleep when I’m done with it. It auto wakes every day at 0700. And the plexconnect window is still running. Works pretty good for me.

I just did a quick bat file calling python and the plexconnect.py then added this to startup within the start menu.

If you don’t want the command window (and don’t need to be able to shutdown with ctrl c) the change it to plexconnect.pyw and the window is not displayed. Then just set your user account to auto login. Not ideal but works well

Thanks drewbie! I created a bat file launching plexconnect.pyw on startup. Works like a charm!!

Glad it helped. Not as stylish as an actual service but does the job on windows

Is there any chance you might find it in your heart to show me how to create a .bat file, I am sorry to say I wouldn't have the first clue where to start but I would love to have that automation.

Currently I do the same type of updating of PlexConnect as you for the same reasons.

1) For us to know what the trouble is with the TV section, we'll need you to delete your current plexconnect.log file in your plexconnect-master folder, and then go into your Setting.cfg file and look for loglevel = Normal and change Normal to High, save and close. Then, launch PlexConnect and go through the steps to recreate the trouble you're having so you can post a fresh PlexConnect.log file for us to view.

2) When you go into settings, and configure the Always Show option for unwatched synopsis, as soon as you have your settings the way you want, go to your PlexConnect app on your server and hit Ctrl+C to close PlexConnect. Doing that saves the settings you've choosen, and this thread is a good resource on how to save yourself time in the future when you update your PlexConnect version: https://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/86820-advice-from-the-savvy/

3)Are you changing artwork on Plex Media Centre? That is perhaps a different thread to look up than the PlexConnect threads.

I hope some of this helps!

Yeah definitely need a log to see what is happening.

hey guys.  thanks so much for the help.  the only thing left to fix now is the tv on deck section...

i'll work on uploading a log file soon...

@geoff

to make a bat file, rename any file to .bat and edit it.

paste this and save:

start /min c:\python27\python -b C:\yourPathToPlexConnect\PlexConnect.py

place this bat file in startup folder

I look forward to the log file, as I am sure the rest do, so that we can try and suss out what is giving you troubles.

Thank you very much for taking the time to show me what a bat file is and how to use one. I really will need to keep digging on them to understand it, but for know I just love the fact that PlexConnect will start with my Windows startup.
