Image cache to new server

Server Version#: 4.140.1
Player Version#: N/A

I have Plex Media Server running on Raspberry Pi OS 12 (bookworm.) I am moving to a fresh install on a new SD card. I have backed-up the preferences.xml file and also the library.

When I run the new install there is no image cache / thumbnails etc. I know that it can populate it by downloading everything fresh from the internet.

However, I am wondering if there are certain files / folders that I can copy across as this would be quicker?

The only way to take it to the new SD card, and keep everything intact, is to make an image (tar ball) backup of /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library and then extract it on the new SD card.

When you do this, you keep:

  1. Your Preferences.xml (identity and preferences)
  2. Your database (of all the indexed media)
  3. All the metadata
  4. All the thumbnails
  5. Any customizations (posters, etc) you have made.
