[Implemented] Allow "Collections" Tag for TV Show Episodes

Bump again. Almost 5 1/2 years for a very simple and popular request.

Wanted this again today. Would be nice to group all the Halloween-themed episodes together in a collection.

A playlist isn’t the same and doesn’t cut it.

Please implement this feature. It’s exponentially simpler than a lot of other features you’ve spent time on that no one asked for, and I think at this point enough people have made the case for while it’d be valuable.

That reply you got seems odd, considering Plex is already capable of recognizing collections across Movie and TV libraries by name…

Though considering movie collections still don’t play in release order, even when the “Collection Order” is set to “Release Date,” I have little hope that anything will be done on something like this which is marginally more complicated.

They ignore bug fixes too. There’s a bug that keeps sharing labels present even after it’s not associated with any media. Doing an optimize on the database doesn’t remove it like it should. It was reported years ago and they didn’t even reply.

Just throwing my hat in here - if I could make collections for “Christmas Specials” that could not only include favorite christmas films but also christmas episodes from Doctor Who, Friends, The Office, etc - that would make Plex a thousand times better.

Another use case:

After some research, I found that the first James Bond on film was actually a made-for-TV episode of the show “Climax” in 1954. None of the other Climax episodes are about James Bond, so I don’t want to add the entire show to my Collection… just that episode.

For this to be really useful, I’d also need to be able to see Collections across Movies and TV Shows on a single screen, in the same way that I can currently see Collections across Movies and Music. I don’t think I can do that currently. (Am I wrong? And is there a separate thread for that?)

Plex Mods…after nearly 6 years of waiting for this request i think we, your loyal supporters, demand to hear from you on this topic. I think the question is quite simple. Are you or Are you not going to provide this feature request?

In not, WHY???

And If so, give is a raw timeline of expected release.

Plex mods have no say/knowledge in future feature plans, we’re just volunteers helping out other users.

Plex rarely if ever announces future plans, roadmaps, or timelines for upcoming features.

What’s the point of this forum then, if not to serve as a conduit to communicate with Plex staff?

Same thing I’ve been asking myself for four years…

Hmmmm…will her are my thoughts on this giving that in other apps i have been a developer myself and yet others a form moderator. In both areas communication is key, without it your users are left to wonder if anyone cares. Not a good place to be.

With regards that “mod have no say/knowledge” I can only agree with part of that statement. Mods, besides being the form police for language, tone, etc of a post as well as being able to repeat an FAQ when a user has trouble locating the answer, they can also serve as a gateway between the users and the app support teams.

Typically, at least if forums where i have been a mod in the past there are special forms that the mods only have access to where you are able to have some access, albeit limited, to the app support. In these forms you would normally be able to ask, on behalf of the forum community, how to best respond to a repeating and common question, like this one that has been asked for at least 5+ years. They should be able to provide at least some direction (even if not going into a lot of detail) on what their plans are. To me the plans should be very binary. They are either not going to consider this (add reason why here) or they are going to at least add it to the backlog of suggestions for later review (which could mean that they will eventually add it or , after initial consideration, not add it and hopefully provide a simple answer as to why not.

Since this would appear, at least on the surface, to be very much like a collection (which is already at the movie and tv series level) it would not seem to be that much of a stretch to add a collections type tag at the tv episode level.

I guess my underling comment here is that mods should also be the voice of the users with the app team as we, as users, do not have that direct relationship. If mods are not able to be our voice then, as others have questioned…why do we even have / need mods?

This is making think how cool it would be if story lines across series could be collected as well. For example, imagine if Crisis on Infinite Earths could be tagged it would play the appropriate DCU shows in the correct sequence across Supergirl, Batwoman, Flash, Arrow, Black Lightning and etc. That way you would have a cohesive story for crossovers. No more getting midway into a story line and spoiling things for yourself. This can even be used for classic shows that would have crossovers like The Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman. Maybe this data could be pulled from things like TheTVDB and IMDB as well as being a manual option.

Agree that this would be a great feature. I ran into this problem adding my Rick Steves’ Europe collection into Plex (which someone already mentioned). Organizing by season works just fine but I want a Collection that lets me view all episodes related to a specific country. Episodes about specific countries are spread across different seasons so being able to view all episodes regarding a specific country via a Collection would be nice.

I vote for this feature too. It would be useful for the DC Universe TV crossover stories where you only watch 1 or 2 of the DC TV shows, but want to watch the crossover in its entirety. It would be cool to have a collection that is titled “Crisis on Infinite Earths” that gives you the 5 episodes in watch order, provided you have the 5 episodes available.

Would like this feature too, it would be useful to list all of the top gear specials in a collection, as most of them are season episodes not included in the specials season.

+1 on this feature request, please.

absolutely looking forward to this feature

Wow 6 years and nothing. Just wanted to put all the Simpsons treehouse episodes in a collection. Also some Christmas ones. If the problem is the structure why don’t they create a separate collection for tv shows?

It does seem like this would be really easy to enable to add single episodes.
