[Implemented] Allow "Collections" Tag for TV Show Episodes

This is completely lazy and retarded. I have dozens of episodes of shows which I’m trying to add to collections, yet all I can select STILL (nearly 6 years later) are only WRITERS and DIRECTORS. Why am I unable to classify a collection for TV seasons?

Has anyone heard of a plugin that can accomplish this? I mean if Plex isn’t going to take it seriously maybe someone else has stepped up to the plate…

I know this is a long-standing request, and as a developer I have no doubt that there are challenges to achieving this that we aren’t aware of.

I’d love nothing more than to put together a “Best Of” collection of Twilight Zone episodes for my dad. It’s one of those shows we bonded over growing up, and since we don’t get to visit much anymore it’s something I’d love to do for him.

Hopefully the collections feature makes this a little easier to achieve in the future: I think it’s worthwhile and one of the best applications of “Collections”.

Add another vote for this - silly limitation. I know a lot of people here want to use “collections” to collect a few tv episodes, but what about a “theme” of some kind that spans across movies and single tv episodes, no way to do this without allowing tags on individual episodes.

I’m getting kinda tired of the lack of service from Plex. I’ve paid, I’ve supported, I’ve brought others to sign up. We’re here for a reason, to sort media. Plex doesn’t support that primary purpose anymore and has instead become wrapped up in these crappy streaming services.

Nailed it. Plex has turned their backs on the ones that have kept them going. I’ve spent alot of time building and curating my plex media server but if this is the way we’re going to be treated then it’ll be worth it to find a service that does provide the features that are repeatedly requested over a more than five year period of time.

This is the reason that me and pretty much everyone that I know has now switched to Emby. They care and listened to those who are paying their wages and putting money in their bank accounts. Plex gets your money then they could care less about you, what you say or what you want. I mean MY GOD how hard is it to implement this feature or the most asked for feature; allowing collections to have SUB-COLLECTIONS.

Seems like this request is falling on deaf ears, but I’ll put out another voice out for it. Starting to really organize my shows, and it would’ve been great to have a tag for individual TV episodes. I wanted to put together a collection for each holiday that I could then shuffle through and watch. I was so disappointed when I got to starting and saw that only writers and directors as options… really?

Another request for “episodes in collections”. This would be useful on so many levels!

For anyone that doesn’t know, it is possible to have the same collection in Movies & TV Shows. If you’ve already started a collection in one simply add a collection to the other making sure to name it EXACTLY THE SAME. I’ve done this multiple times & it works perfectly.

First post in 2014, why the hell is this not a thing yet ???

I’ll add my use case even though this request seems to have been ignored by the devs.

I have children’s TV collections on disc, where it contains multiple Christmas themed episodes from six different TV shows, all owned by the same network. I’ve backed them up to my Plex server, but regardless of how I tag them I always end up with one or two that I’m not able to include in the collection. This is because they have the same TV show title as others already existing in my library. So, I can either list it with an incorrect title and add it to the collection, or I list it with the correct title and can’t add it to the collection unless I add the entire series (not part of the collection).

Although the tagging may be more difficult with individual episodes, it seems that an easier solution may be to implement a feature within individual collections where you can add episodes by filename.

I reached out to Plex again and was at first told to make a playlist as it worked the same way, and then when I told them it only works for the user that makes the playlist whereas a collection works for everyone they said that isn’t true anymore and sent me this link, I am going to try out the advice when I get home tonight and I will follow up with my results, but if this works I would think it is an acceptable workaround (for now at least).

If it still acts the same as it did a few months ago, you can share a playlist of shows with other users, but it does not remember where they left off, and will make them start the playlist over each time

I’d like to add my voice to the list here. I have a massive collection of the Disney Animated Shorts. All the way from 1920’s to Today.

I have no problem with the NameSxxExx format for the files, but being able to organize collections with major characters (Micky, Donald, ChipNDale) would be very handy and appreciated. I say this having bought a lifetime pass.

+1 from me. Christmas is nearly here again. I’d like to add Christmas episodes from various shows to a Christmas collection.

+1 - seriously, since 2014 and no reply or update on this? Kind of regretting getting a Lifetime membership at this point, it feels like Plex is only putting out the bare minimum in updates and ignoring valid requests like this.

I would like this feature.

Would like to create a “Christmas” collection of Christmas TV episodes, just like I can with films.

Does not seem too unreasonable of a request.

I waiting for this feature

With the admins responsivity to this request, don’t hold your breath…

I was just closed & linked to this as well, though the title doesn’t seem like what I was asking for at least the comments seem similar enough

I know this is going to be something with very limited demand, but I think it might be simple to implement & if it was available more people would use it, but wouldn’t necessarily go looking for it.

I have a Library of Holiday things set as a Movie library. In it I have collections, for Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Valentine’s Day, Easter, 4th of July. I have some things in this library that are episodes of a show. I set them as movies & in the cases I have the show in one of my TV show libraries I make a copy of the file for the holiday library. On 1 occasion I have a TV series in my Cartoon library that is Halloween so I’ve added that show to the Halloween collection & it shows in the Halloween collection of my Holiday library.

It’d be nice to be able to add single episodes to that collection as well.
This could also potentially be useful for things like shows that have a single episode not appropriate for children being labeled as Adult, but I think that’d be a whole nother thing to figure out
