For a lot of anime they go by new names for new seasons and sometimes the wrong info is pulled from the database when naming or it wont include OVA’s which are sometimes stand alone arcs ( story line). It would be great to have the ability to change the labeling of seasons, so under a series you can add what the name of the current part of the series is.
example: there is an anime series monogatari
in plex it splits into 4 seasons and does not add in my OVA episodes but instead need to be in seperate names under the same series
Bakemonogatari
NiseMonogatari
and so on
but the series does not go into Seasons but different names all together kind of like the Pokemon series changes name after each new arc
Simply the ability to change what each season is named would be a start. To allow us to change the text " Season 3" to lets say " Pokemon Jhoto league"
thetvdb doesn’t seem to have a field for season name, which would probably make this tricky.
It’s probably a good idea to also go over to their forums and request they add that. If the data was there, Plex could just pull that and then have a “Use season name instead of season number” checkbox.
PLEX doesn’t have a way to rename seasons right now. It sort of has the hack of season 0 being “specials” but aside from that, you can’t give a season a title. This would be really useful to have, even if I had to set the names of my seasons manually.
Having this would also be very helpful for organizing sports and family/home videos within the media library. It would be best if this works the same was as the Episode Title, in both how the episode is displayed and sorted.
Note: The Extended Personal Media Agent/Scanner current supports handling a Season Title, so adding Season Title to the Plex metadata will enhance this plug-in as well.
Very helpful to name seasons. Just look at the show Spartacus.
Spartacus Season 01 Blood and Sand (2010)
Spartacus Season 02 Vengeance (2012)
Spartacus Season 03 War of the Damned (2013)
Spartacus Gods of The Arena (2011)
In Netflix this prequel to Spartacus Season 01 is listed on the show Spartacus as season 2.
Some have used season 00 for this prequel, but it is not a special.
At best perhaps a show of its own, but it should be listed on Spartacus.
It would be very helpful if Plex could show the name of the season.

Surely they can just add an additional field with an option to enable it (similar to collections). Who cares if thetvdb does/doesn’t have a field for it.
If they add s field later on than agents can be updated to point it to this. I have both emby/plex an this is one of my few compliant as an anime watcher.
Also feel this should be added. The fact that this works really makes me question why it’s not already an option. Does editing this cause some sort of issue down the road?
For naming anime, you need to install hama bundle in your plugins and set your Anime library/folder agent to hama bundle. It will take its metadata on anidb as you would wish for each season name being different. You don’t need to install the absolute scanner but if you like it, install it. Personnally I do not use the absolute scanner, I only use the metadata agent. Here is a link : https://github.com/ZeroQI/Hama.bundle. Nothing new to add here, but I would also love to see custom season names be a thing! It sounds so simple to do, and it kind of blows my mind that, with all the customizability that Plex does have, we can’t change the names of seasons. I personally would like to use this for dragon boat/canoe racing videos I’ve organized as “TV Shows,” like “Race Day 1: 200m, 500m” and “Race Day 5: 2000m, Closing Ceremonies.”
Note that both seasons of this show aren’t labeled as “Season 1” and “Season 2” but as “Ghost in the shell: Stand Alone Complex” and “… 2nd GIG”
So there should be a clean way to do this without having to manually edit the sqlite database or running javascript code from the client side.
Are there any particular issues that is preventing from being able to implement this feature that seems to longstanding for 4 years+?
So, I don’t know if this is an actual field in TheTVDB or just a weird visual thing they’re doing, BUT it looks like some shows have season names now. Notably: American Horror Story, Lego Ninjago, and Cosmos (2014).
Since that was the thing we were missing to make Season Naming a feature, perhaps we’ll finally be able to get that implemented?
This feature is part of the forum preview for the future tv-show agent (currently only looking up English season names).
So you might get lucky in the next couple of months.
As mentioned above… the experimental scanner/agent automatically downloads season titles. Keep in mind this preview is only for serious testers, do not yet use it for productive environments!!
Plex Web 4.52.1 has added the option to manually set/change season names → implemented!
