[Implemented] - Multiple Cuts Of Movie

Yeah, But I even checked to make sure the version was correct.
{Just a note, I had to refresh the page because before it was using an older version because the tab had been open for a couple days. Changing pages, even going from the library to the settings didn’t reload it but a refresh of the page did}
But even using the same version as you were it didn’t have it for me.
@WAYFLIX saw it as well, but he said he’s using the beta version of the Server, I assume you are as well.
I’m on Server Version 1.28.0.5999 which is Up-To-Date if not on the Beta. If you are on Beta it looks like the current Beta Version of the server is Beta Version 1.28.1.6018
So it looks like it’s a combination of Server & Web App needed to show up. Meaning that if you are having issues editing it, it’s probably just a beta bug that should get fixed.

If you are on the Beta & a version lower than 1.28.1.6018 than updating to the newest version may fix the issue.

It should not be there yet. it does not work yet.

Thanks for clarifying.

I’m on this version, but see the post above from the dev.

I was looking & can’t find the post you are referring to

I really hope we don’t have to split these apart to get them to work… We can do that today with some tinkering. A dropdown on a single version would be infinitely preferable.

I also hope that it somehow can be automated if I name my files correctly.

Either that or in case of TV shows with MP4 Tags or buddy files. Multiple cuts are not only a Movie topic, e.g. Doctor Who has a variety of issues that can be solved with this feature. There are omnibus editions of four-part-shows, different kinds of restoration (color animation, bw animation, stills recons…) for lost episodes, even for New Who shows there are different editions.
So I’m very keen to get this feature.

I’ll just say this. I have no doubt there will be folks that will not be happy, think we missed the mark etc; some folk will be happy with it; and others for whom it is fine but have other concerns. Try to take this as a first step that can be improved as we learn how folks use it and how they use it with other features like collections for example.

This is only going to be for movies, not TV shows. There is a whole host of variables for TV shows that this would not handle well IMO due to the nature of them as an ordered group generally intended to play in a particular order. (Not saying something for TV shows/episodes will never happen but those probably need other considerations)

I personally don’t really care how it’s implemented tbh, something simple is all I really need. My only concern is how they’re presented, worst case scenario (for me) would be having them look / act like a collection when there are much better / more intuitive routes that could be taken*

*another shameless plug for the mock-up I posted :eyes:

This would be second choice for me after a dropdown. I wouldn’t complain if they went this direction.

Really crossing my fingers that it won’t be completely separate entries. There’s nothing preventing me from doing that, today…

Ok, thanks for clarification. So I will not wait for this but tag different versions of a TV Episode as “other”-type of Extra. Would be really helpful to get more types of extras like e.g. “-alternate” or “-cut” to do this.

AND ofc it requires that finally the season and episode extras would be accessible from normal players like windows or web, not only for mobile phones. Watching on a 5" mobile display is a bit strange when you sit in front of a 33" screen. It is very disppointing to get update after update without a fix for this lack.

The main issues with TV shows is the nature of them So you have an alternate version of episode 5 of show X. When you are auto playing and hits episode 5 which does it play? I have no doubt some folks will expect it to work with things like the CW Arrowverse crossovers to work because they consider it a different playing order edition. You may not care about those specifically, just saying there are a bunch more of what happens when this happens sort of scenarios with TV. Some we may be able to solve for and others we can’t but we will likely start with one or two aspects of issue when it can be tackled rather than solve everything at once.

One of the main aspects this is intending to solve with movies is the watch state not being the same for each edition which has been a problem for years. And the old work around does not really work anymore because cannot mix and match agents in a single library anymore with new agents.

Again please take this as first step that can be improved, there are various opinions about how they should be displayed in clients and/or how the files themselves need to be set up, and I’m sure there will be more. I have my own as well that differs from other employees and folks here. There is also the nature of how the DB, scanners, etc function and what is in reality possible with how they currently work. At the end of the day you need to go to a thing an select an option, which may have further options

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. I’m all for giving it your best shot as a place to start., and tuning it as you (and we) learn more.

I’m sure there are a few who care about this, but I would think the desire to have some manner of version control at all far outweighs those that need to track which ones they’ve watched.

I just said that was one of the things considered as it comes up a lot. Your idea of version control may be very different than another users, which is probably different than mine. Then as mentioned there is what is actually possible with how GUIDs, Agents, DB etc work and there will be trade-offs. I’m always amazed by the various ways folks name or organize their files. I’m sure there is going to be debates of versions vs editions and folks trying to use one for the other.

Haha. Reminds me of the collections vs playlist debates.

Fair. I’m going to wait to see what we get. I’d like to think I’m an average user for this type of thing. Don’t have 50 versions of Bladerunner, but do have a few Theatrical vs. Director’s cuts.
I’ve also been proven wrong before when they combined online and OTA Live TV sources. Initially protested, but ended up liking it. I learned a lot from that.

I mean I’m not too concerned with the TV shows Alternate cuts personally, but wouldn’t there always be a Main Cut? I would assume that would be pretty simple to have it play unless you selected otherwise.
For a TV Show I guess if you had a lot of ones you could possibly have a “Which version” before you started playback… but that gets messy because you’re probably not going to be just binge-watching everything…
Plus what if you don’t have that version of 1 episode that you checked… Yeah, that seems very messy.
You’d need a priority order…

Thinking about the old Dr What someone mentioned & if some episodes have a BW version & a Color version but others have an audio over stills version & an animated recreation version, then others have a BW version & an animated version… You couldn’t just have a “Which version do I want to play?” & choose one, you’d need to choose a priority list, like 1.) Color, 2.) BW, 3.) Animated, 4.) Stills but I can’t see a practical way to do that…

The best way I can see would be to have a main episode & then have a way to watch the others only if you individually selected them… but that would essentially just be like a special feature, lol.

I’d say having the special features work on the TV (I mean the Android TV App & Mobile app are the same app) & maybe adding an “Alternative Edition” category would be the best. But for some reason Plex doesn’t seem to want people to be able to do things on the TV, like I’ve never understood why you can’t rate things on the TV interface, it drives me crazy. I mean in my car I have an Android Head Unit & I have a remote setup with it. if I use the remote it asks me if I want to switch to the TV interface. I tried it, but it then doesn’t let me access my downloads, that one I get, sorta, but why remove the Special Features or the ability to add stars? It seems that that should be a simple fix

Alright. Here’s my BIG question.

From the screenshot of the guy who saw it when he shouldn’t have the Edition field was on the General tab of the Edit Movie dialog. How would that work if there are more than 1 file? It doesn’t seem to have a way to specify which file that version is about… I know you probably can’t answer that but it’s been bugging me since I saw that Screenshot
