[Implemented] - Multiple Cuts Of Movie

+1 I still would love to see this added to Plex.

+1 same here, extras and different cuts show up as multiple entries in the movies library for a film with poor background/poster art for the extras

+1
can’t believe this hasn’t been done yet.

And if you implement this feature, please, for the sake of disk space usage, support (multiple chapter) editions / ordered chapters / segment linking aswell. So only the different segments of the cuts are additionally safed - in the same file.

I came here to put in this feature request. It kills me, for movies like my Bond collection, where I have all the “extras” as seperate files in the same folders as the movies themselves, but they end up “scattered” all over my library and each one showing up as a separate item in the library.

I LOVE Plex, but I desperately want some way (even if it’s manual) to say “this is an extra for movie ‘y’” and have it show up under the movie in the “Extras” section rather than as a separate item.

And
5 minutes after my comment, I found out that you can do exactly what I want:

My fault for assuming that, because I didn’t see a “button” to make it happen, that it wasn’t possible.

Thank you, Plex

Would love this feature for the kids’ movies available in multiple languages! 2D/3D. Theatrical/extended

+1 Waiting for this for years

I really would like to see that feature too

(yes, I’ve also ‘liked’)

How is it that this was first posted almost six years ago and has 450 likes, yet it’s still not implemented?

So many films are available in multiple cuts and the current workaround of splitting and lock-editing them just isn’t acceptable. After splitting, all cuts are either watched or unwatched and if you stop midway in one, the other displays as if it had been watched to the same point.

Please, update Plex to gracefully handle multiple cuts!

I have some TV Shows as well as Movies were I have two versions of the very same Episode / Movie. Currently the “Play Version” feature only shows the Resolution and Bitrate.

Plex already plays the “best quality” of a multiple version media entry and that fine. I would like to see a change here that adds some more functionality to Plex.

As an example lets use the following files:

Battlestar Galactica.S02E10.mkv
Battlestar Galactica.S02E10.Extended.mkv

and

Alien (1979).mkv
Alien (1979).Director’s Cut.mkv

Plex should start using the yet unused Optional_Info (see Naming ‘Series’ & ‘Season’ Based TV Shows) and use that Info in the “Play Version” dialog instead. This could not only be used for eg. Extended but also for 3D versions, etc. If no Optional_Info is given Plex should use “Standard” or “Normal”.
This could be a quick improvement.

However, that change would make it impossible to chose what Quality you want to play. If you have eg. Alien (1979).mkv in Original Quality but Alien (1979).Director’s Cut.mkv in Original and 720p Quality you only could select the Original Quality versions of both editions. Maybe we should ignore this fact and advise users to use the well known “Quality Selector” which is available once the Media started playing but maybe the next addition is more appreciated:

The Play Version selector shows “Optional_Info (1080p, 12 Mbps)”. In the last example you would get a list of the following entries:

Standard (1080p, 12 Mbps)
Director’s Cut (1080p, 10 Mbps)
Director’s Cut (740p, 4 Mbps)

Personally I don’t have different qualities stored (Server is fast enough to transcode multiple 1080p streams) for the same media. I have different versions (Normal / Extended / 3D / Storyboard) but I cannot chose these yet. I would be happy with any of the above suggestions but I know (most?) other users actually have different qualities stored and want to chose from them before the media starts playing back.

Movies and their various cuts and extended editions, as well as 2D or 3D editions should be easily placed under one movie heading in the Movie list, then you should be asked which version you want to play with a clear description - I wouldn’t even b bothered if you have to put that descriptor in at file or metadata level, just the key option of being able to pick, clearly, which is which.

Movies like The Hobbit are a clear example, there’s Theatrical, Extended, Theatrical 3D, Extended 3D, then multiply that by the 3 movies and you have a really huge list of Hobbit movies taking up valuable space. It’s tedious enough on some devices to have to scroll through, but 12 images of the same movie in the way is just irritating.

PLEASE can we have a decent way to collate and pick movies. The bitrate and size is not a good enough indicator for users.

Cause clearly sonos integration is more important

I would like something like this as well. Although everyone else is focused more on different cuts, I’m interested in variations of the same movie. My thought was, and it would be I think simple to implement, is just in the “play version” dialog, to display anything in the square brackets of the file name that is otherwise ignored by Plex. So:
Movie [SD]
Movie [720P]
Movie [720P, Director’s Cut]

Would show “SD”, “720P”, “720P, Director’s Cut” as the options. I think it’d be a heck of a lot more useful then the bitrate that is shown now for otherwise identical titles.
